Today, on Zero Emission Day, we celebrate our commitment to care for the planet and society.
At Straumann Group, we understand the importance of reducing our carbon footprint. That’s why we have set ourselves ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with climate science and a 1.5°C trajectory. Our goal is to reach net-zero emissions by 2040. To get there, we are planning to reduce 42% of our scope 1 and 2 emissions and 25% of scope 3 emissions by 2030.
We are proud to say that these targets have been independently assessed and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. by @straumanngroup

🌎 22 April is Earth Day celebrating the theme “Invest in our planet”. Our recently established CADCAM milling center in Mansfield (US) is an example of this approach as it operates on 100% renewable energy. At Straumann Group, we remain committed to caring for the planet and society. Acting upon this commitment, we set ourselves the goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 and submitted this target to the Science Based Targets initiative for validation.

♻️ In 2022, we achieved 80% of our goal to switch to 100% renewable energy by 2024. We also invested 127 million Swiss Francs in land, buildings, and machinery last year. When making these investments, we consider the environmental impact from the beginning to minimize our emissions, manage our waste and reduce our use of materials, energy, and water. More details are available in our Annual Report (link in the bio).

Today is World Water Day 🌍, and we would like to take a moment to recognize this precious and scarce element. Straumann Group operations do not heavily rely on water, although we aim for responsible use of water resources.

👉 In 2022, our Malmö manufacturing site saved approximately 1 500 cubic meters of water when producing the ‘Water for Injection’ (WFI) raw material used to produce Straumann’s periodontal healing gels. In 2020, the production equipment was replaced resulting in a 50% reduction in water use to make this raw material.

👉 Our factory in Curitiba, Brazil remains at the forefront of our water-saving efforts. An on-site water treatment process installed in 2021 has now preserved 11 000 cubic meters of potable water. The highly efficient water reuse system currently reduces the need for potable freshwater by 60%. Treated water is used in factory toilets.

Almost 25% of adults in the United States aged 50 and older with diabetes have severe tooth loss, compared to about 16% of those without diabetes.

Why does diabetes cause problems with oral health?

Diabetes develops when your blood glucose level, also known as blood sugar, is abnormally high. High blood glucose levels can cause glucose to build up in your saliva. This glucose can feed harmful bacteria, which then bind to food to form a soft, sticky film.
Diabetes can cause changes in your saliva, the fluid that keeps your mouth moist. Saliva aids in the prevention of tooth decay by washing away food particles, preventing bacteria from growing, and combating the acids produced by bacteria. Saliva also contains minerals that help protect oral tissues and fight tooth decay.

If you have diabetes
👉 tell your dentist about your diabetes, including how long you’ve had the disease, any diabetes-related problems you may have, and any medicines you take
👉 keep your dentist updated on any changes to your health, including any increase in your blood glucose levels
👉 ask how often you should come in for regular cleanings and checkups
👉 follow your dentist’s advice on how to prevent and treat mouth problems from diabetes
