In Montenegro, our 30 rescued dogs are safe in paid pension — but “safe” in the blazing sun isn’t the same as living.
They deserve more than extreme weathers and fences. They deserve more attention, more love, a soft bed, a place they can call 'Home'.

A place where:
- 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 can come help and spend meaningful time with the dogs.
- We can bring them 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲.
- We can prioritize the 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀: the old, the sick, the injured. Not just from us, but from other overwhelmed rescuers and organizations too.

We could manage a small plot — but not the space our dogs need to run, heal, and live freely. That’s why we’re asking for help to make this dream big enough, for them.

We’ve seen what is possible — in Belgium, with Hanne’s mom, where our old pack spent their last years surrounded by care. Most of them are gone now… but they left this world knowing they were Home.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆

Over the years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to saving stray dogs and puppies in Montenegro, often stepping in when no one else could. Each life saved brings immense joy and fulfillment, but it also comes with significant responsibilities and costs. Since Montenegro is not part of the EU and is classified as a high-risk rabies country, dogs must undergo a rabies blood titer test at least one month after receiving their rabies vaccine. If they pass the test, they can only travel three months thereafter. To assist tourists effectively, we provide a clear and detailed estimate of the costs involved in rescuing a healthy stray dog and bringing him or her to the EU, with a full overview available on our website.

Sadly we’ve faced challenges that made us reflect on how we can protect our mission and the well-being of the animals we rescue.

One particular experience showed us how crucial it is to establish clear boundaries and procedures, especially when working with tourists.

We outlined the case in the slides.

This experience highlights the risks of unclear agreements and verbal promises. It also reinforces the importance of having proper structures in place to ensure the dogs in our care receive the resources and attention they deserve.

Effective immediately:
-𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿
Once established, we plan to welcome visitors, donors, and volunteers, with the goal of providing care for the dogs at a lower cost. Additionally, if promises made by others are not honored, the dogs will at least be in a home-like environment rather than a pension.
https://strayaidmontenegro.be/sam-shelter/
- 𝗔 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱: If a tourist wishes to save a dog through our organization, a formal contract must be signed. This contract will clearly outline responsibilities, costs, and timelines to avoid any misunderstandings.

Some holiday loves are meant to come home 🇲🇪🏡🇳🇱

About 1,5 months ago, tourists from the Netherlands found a tiny stray near Žabljak. They named her Sieske, and instead of leaving her behind when their holiday ended, they asked us whether we could help them take her home.

This time, we could.

Together, we arranged everything Sieske needed to travel to the Netherlands. She was also found to be in the early stages of pregnancy. At only 8 kg, giving birth could have placed her own life at risk. While we do not terminate late-stage pregnancies, in an early stage we believe it can be the kindest choice. Sieske was spayed, preventing the possible loss of her life and more puppies being born into a country already overflowing with unwanted dogs.

Since a few days, Sieske is safe in the Netherlands with the people who refused to forget her. She already knows commands, loves being close to them and is, by all accounts, the sweetest little girl.

We wish every message from a tourist could end this way. Unfortunately, it cannot. Our main foster place has a waiting list, and most days we simply have nowhere to put another dog.

What made the difference for Sieske was that her finders didn’t only ask for help; they were ready to give her a home.

They met a stray dog on holiday.

They came home with family ❤️

𝗕𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗼'𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘆 🥺

☑ Found just in time.
☑ Learned to stand on his paws again.
☑ Took every dose of medicine.
☑ Grew stronger each day.
☑ Got those floppy ears flopping again.
☑ Became the bestest boi.

And now, after completing every part of his rescue, one box remains empty:

☐ 𝗕𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻.

Bruno cannot tick that one himself. He needs someone to see beyond his diagnosis, open their heart, and give him the safe, loving home he fought so hard to reach.

He was found by caring tourists after collapsing in thorn bushes, gravely ill with leishmaniosis. He completed his treatment, recovered beautifully, and his leishmaniosis is now in clinical remission. With proper follow-up, he can live a long and happy life.

We believe Bruno may be an Istrian Wire-haired Hound mix who once belonged to a hunter and was abandoned when he became sick. Yet he carries none of that cruelty with him. He is exceptionally kind, gentle and grateful, wonderful with people and other dogs, and asks for so little: softness, safety and someone who will stay.

For a healthy, neutered dog, our standard adoption fee is €480, which mainly helps cover transport costs. Because Bruno has an ongoing medical condition and will need future monitoring, his adoption fee can be discussed with the right applicant.

You can apply to adopt or foster Bruno by filling in our 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺, available through the Linktr.ee in our bio. The form is non-binding.

Some souls shine the brightest, even after surviving the darkest chapters 🩷🧡🩷

Meet diva Dina, one of our foster dogs. She was rescued alongside 31 other dogs from horrific abuse. They were neglected, exploited for breeding, and used for dog fighting.
Here, she is still heartbreakingly thin, but these beautiful colors reflect the light that was never taken away from her.

Every purchase you make at Paramor helps us continue rescuing dogs like Dina. You’re not just buying a collar or a matching set, you’re giving abandoned dogs a second chance at life.
Thank you for being part of their journey🐾

Dina Sponge women set: €110

At our main foster pension, many of our dogs, together with dogs from other rescuers and organisations, are safe ❤️

Most of them are free 24/7, able to run, play, rest and simply be dogs. This is only possible because they feel safe enough to live peacefully together in a big group. This also means very little sleep for Edin, who watches over them day and night. Only a few dogs need to stay separated because they climb, are not safe with other dogs, or for medical reasons.

But keeping their bellies full is a constant worry. Every week, food alone costs around €175. We need dry food, canned food, and raw red meat for the sick and anemic ones who need extra strength.

You can help us keep them fed by becoming a patron on Patreon. We share more pictures and updates there too:

On the edge of Slansko lake in Montenegro, hidden between thorns and silence, Bruno was waiting to die.

Too weak to stand, his body gave up and collapsed into a bush. A shepherd passed by and tossed him bread, a kind gesture, but not the help he truly needed. For many dogs here, that’s where the story ends: unseen suffering, quiet deaths, no second chances.

But this time, someone stopped.

Tourists, strangers in a foreign country, refused to look away. They saw Bruno, really saw him, and chose to act. What followed was not simple or easy. Racing against time and their own travel plans, they drove from vet to vet, searching for answers. Four clinics later, they finally had one: leishmania. A devastating diagnosis, but not a death sentence. Not yet. His kidneys were still functioning. There was hope.

And they held onto it.

They didn’t hesitate. They got him the treatment he needed: Milteforan, Allopurinol, supplements to fight his severe anemia. They gave him a chance his body was already losing.

We met them yesterday, standing beside Bruno in this fight. And what they’ve done is nothing short of extraordinary. They changed their plans, extended their stay in Montenegro by a month, all for a dog they had never known.

Day 3 of treatment, and Bruno is already showing us who he could have been all along. After initial infusions to stabilize him, he is now standing, even walking short distances.

But Bruno is not a rare story.

He is one of many.

Many who collapse out of sight. Many who are too weak to search for food, too sick to survive on scraps. Many who never get found, never get a second glance, never get a name.

That’s the harder truth behind this beautiful act.

Bruno is alive today because someone chose not to look away. Because compassion outweighed inconvenience. Because responsibility didn’t stop at borders or travel plans.

This is what it means to make a difference.

Not grand gestures. Not perfect systems.

Just a moment where someone decides: this life matters.

And acts on it.

MESSAGE INBOX

Tourist found Montenegro stray situation so upsetting that she gave up 3 weeks of her 6-week holiday volunteering from 10am-7pm daily at the Podgorica azil.

Yesterday, on her last day of vacation, she found a dog in very poor condition near Slansko Lake. He is severely emaciated, with leg sores and eye issues. She brought him to @family_vet_niksic , where tests will be carried out today to assess his chances of recovery. If there is hope, he will urgently need a caring foster to give him the best chance to heal.

Huge thanks to the tourist for her incredible dedication and commitment! by @stray_aid_montenegro

In 2017 we rescued Hopy and her 9 tiny puppies, a family born in uncertainty, held together by love.

Most of the puppies found their paths, their homes, their people.
But some stories circle back to where love first began.
Shiba returned, misunderstood, just a baby asked to grow too fast.
Kleintje returned too, her little heart always finding the way back.

So they stayed.
Hopy. Shiba. Kleintje.
The family.

So much energy. So much chaos, life in its purest form. The family that could exhaust you and heal you in the very same moment. The family that loved without conditions.

Time, as it always does, asked us to let go.
Hopy left first, quietly, a liver tumor taking her gentle strength.
Kleintje followed last year, suddenly, a ruptured spleen tumor stealing the air from the room.
And very recently, Shiba, gone in an instant from an acute tamponade, only two months after a vet visit that gave no sign of what was coming.

The house is quiet now.
The family is no longer here in the way it once was.
But love like that does not disappear.
It lingers in corners, in memories, in the space they shaped inside your heart.

Losing a family member changes you forever. Mom said maybe we should stop having dogs because the pain when they leave is unbearable. But it isn't about us. It never was. by @stray_aid_montenegro
