I feel so free when I blend soft shoe Irish with ballet.

Throwback to 2021, filming for a media company to expand their portfolio. It was a lot of fun 🩰🍀.

I've been so focused on writing this year, which has been an incredible journey, but im itching to create some more dance numbers....

Heavy shoe number? Peaky blinder stlye? All girls? Suits, red lip? Oohhh yes, I can see it 😎

I hope you like this combo x

I’ve always felt soft shoe Irish dancing is so elegant to dance.

But I naturally want to let the movement and emotion travel through the whole body.

I hope you like my style 🌊💚

Thanks to the talented dancers:

Choreographed by moi. I’m going to guess this was 2024 🤷‍♀️

Feels right that my first post here is my first choreography piece from 8 years ago.

I never quite had a place for my choreography in the worlds that already existed, so I’ve had to create my own 😉

Here goes.

Call it the Holy Spirit, the universe, energy, or something else entirely.

For me, it’s about recognising that there is something greater than ourselves, and learning to be still enough to feel it.

WE ALL HAVE A PURPOSE!!

Exploring more spiritual and ancestral parts of GRACE through more atmospheric music🙏🎶🌕🌒✨🌊.

Just casually dancing in the park 🍃🍂☘️

Throw back to when I worked with @fusionfighters teaching some irish dancers a new style at a workshop.

Put ’em together and what have you got?
Bibbidi-Bobbidi… something new ✨

We need the youth in Irish dancing to explore their bodies with other styles of dance.

I recommend contemporary or jazz to start with. Ballet might be too intense and contradict technique.

My point is, we need to learn to move the body so we can bring Irish music and dance closer to musical theatre, contemporary and even a commercial space in the dance world.

Do we agree? Or should the worlds stay in their lane?

Either way, I’m doing me… naturally… and it works. 😂

𝗠𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 ☕️

I’ve spent most of my career on stage or coming into productions as a dancer or choreographer, so writing my own musical has meant learning a whole other side of the industry.

I never seem to finish one book before starting another 🫠 but here's a few I’ve had in rotation over the last couple of years…

The Accidental Producer — Tim Johanson
Learning the business side.

The Musical Theatre Writer’s Survival Guide — David Spencer
Learning the craft, the rules, and playing with them.

Grace O’Malley — Anne Chambers
Understanding the real history and woman behind the world I’m writing.

East of Eden — John Steinbeck
Inspiration for character and visual storytelling.

Practising the Power of Now — Eckhart Tolle
A little reminder to get out of my own head and stay present 😂

I highly recommend the top two for anyone writing a musical....some gems in there.

Catching The Dawn 🎶

Grace repeatedly begs her father to join the clan at sea, but he refuses.

"Women aboard ships are forbidden, bad luck, cursed."

But after a Full Moon Ritual, Grace feels a deeper connection to the spiritual world, with an instinct she can no longer ignore...

Exciting times a head with the best team.

I hope you all like it. X

A fun afternoon in the studio today. I was playing around with some new choreography for the first ever song I wrote 🫶🏼.

Its been a while so I had to look after me old bones. Seriously tho, I was sweating after only a few excercises. 🩰

I’ll hopefully share the choreo soon. X

This was on tour maybe 8 years ago, when I was just starting to get confident exploring how I naturally wanted to move.

The key for me when I’m letting loose and just seeing what happens is choosing a sick piece of music that I know inside out.

I found that having to simplify movement and be really precise with arms, angles and shapes so it could be picked up and executed cleanly in a short amount of rehearsal time actually became a huge part of developing my choreography. It pushed me to think about shapes and movement outside the box.

And Lali absolutely smashed this. We had the BEST time creating it 😎
