Hot take time, and you probably know what this is about 🐘 Let's unpack it. Disclaimer: This isn't a “pro-tattoo” post or meant to expose anyone who disagrees with tattoos in pageantry. The first weeks of being a national titleholder bring congratulatory support, post-pageant reflections, and...you guessed it...public opinions about the newly crowned. Returning to pageantry as a heavily tattooed person, I knew my presence would challenge long-held pageant queen ideals. I also knew that carrying a major title would inevitably invite derogatory remarks. After recent media publications covered my new title, that became reality. Attached are screenshots of actual comments, with names and profile pictures redacted to protect those commenting. My response? I don't have one. Everyone is entitled to their opinions! Not everyone is willing to enter competitive spaces knowing scrutiny awaits. Plot twist ahead. This is EXACTLY what I signed up for, and I'm honored to be at the center of this social controversy. My skin isn't just tattooed; it's thick, too. Social media opinions won't get under it. Change doesn't happen by staying comfortable. Pageant stigmas won't change if titleholder representation doesn't change. That's where trailblazing begins. Over a third of adults in our country are tattooed—including the friends and family of those making these remarks, if not the commenters themselves. While comments like these don't bother me, I wonder how they affect someone who's hesitant to try something because they don't “look the part.” This ideology extends far beyond tattoos in pageantry. We've all questioned whether we belong somewhere or are capable of achieving something. I hope those asking themselves these questions won't let polarizing opinions shrink them down. Instead, become the representation you once needed. As National Mrs. Captivating, my goal is to encourage others to do just that and widen the path for those behind me. I hope readers see a titleholder who is peacefully unconcerned with superficial, socially normative standards. I'm who I needed to see when I was stuck under the glass ceiling. #beyoubedifferentbecaptivating #12monthstocaptivate by @studiormpageants
I’m Vickie, and I’m absolutely honored to be your newly crowned National Mrs. Captivating. 👑 A little bit about me: I’m what I affectionately call a “professional student,” with education and career experience spanning multiple animal-related fields, law enforcement, medicine, education, and music. My platform is rooted in animal welfare advocacy—but for me, that goes far beyond a pageant platform. It’s a lifelong passion and a cause that is deeply woven into who I am. A few things on my short list of hobbies include photography, dancing, and road trips with a purpose. I also have a special affinity for smart, stocky, four-legged creatures with curly tails. 🐷 In this role, I hope to represent the women who disqualify themselves from pageants—or from pursuing any achievement—because they feel they don’t fit the expected mold. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to wear this crown, and I can’t wait to see where this year takes us. ✨ #beyoubedifferentbecaptivating #captivatingpageants #captivatingsisterhood by @studiormpageants
A 3-year-in-the-making dream come true. 👑 Captivating has always felt like home, and last night I officially joined the family as National Miss Captivating 2027. 💋 So many people have been in my corner to make this happen, so a few special thank-yous… @rian_valentinecoach @rian_k_valentine — You saw something in me 3 years ago that I couldn’t see in myself. Thank you for pulling that confidence out of me and helping me finally see it too. I just love you. 🤍 My fiancé, @tyboggs_2 — Pageants might not be your thing, but one thing’s for sure and two things are for certain… you’ve loved me through every phase of life. Forever thankful for you. 🤍 Madre @melissa_g_young — 2nd runner-up at your FIRST pageant?! Crazy work 😂 Thank you for practicing with me and being by my side all weekend. Dad, Grams, Papaw, the Boggs family, Young family, Jayden on FaceTime & my friends — thank you for always supporting me. Looking out after being crowned and seeing my grandma dancing while holding up a giant fathead of me 😂😭 is a moment I’ll cherish forever. @studiormpageants & @studiormrick — Thank you for always making me feel confident in front of the camera and for putting on such a beautiful production every year. @yasincuevas — Getting the technique in my walk down helped me feel my best on that runway. Always thankful for you! Former queens, Captivating family & the beautiful @shaden.degen — thank you for the backstage help, hugs, laughs, and making sure we all looked and felt our best. Your work from early mornings to late nights NEVER goes unnoticed. 🤍 Here’s to one unforgettable year! 👑 Xoxo, your new National Miss Captivating 2027 Jasmine Roach 💋 #beyou #bedifferent #becaptivating #captivatingpageants #captivatingsisterhood • • • Gown: @henrispageant @henriscloud9 @sherrihill @stefaniesomers by @studiormpageants
I heard it’s @captivatingpageants’ 15th anniversary… so obviously I had to come home. ❤️‍🔥✨ Do I love the gowns? Absolutely. Do I love the glam? Obviously. Do I love the girls? Always. But one of my favorite parts of pageantry has actually become the part that happens after the crown. I’ve never been very good at walking away from the organizations I’ve had the privilege of representing. 😂 When I believe in something, I want to keep pouring into it. I want to come back. I want to cheer for the next girl. I want to help where I can. I want to watch something I once represented continue to grow long after my own chapter is over. Because somewhere along the way, the titles become less about the year you wore them and more about the communities you get to be part of for years afterward. And I think that’s one of the coolest parts of this entire crazy hobby. So this weekend, I get to put on a different hat: Captivating alumna, proud member of this family, professional yapper, and the girl running around trying to document as much of the magic as humanly possible. 📸 Rick: 15 years. Fifteen years of gowns, crowns, ridiculously glamorous weekends, friendships, memories, and women who get to say Captivating was part of their story. That’s a legacy worth celebrating. Congratulations to you, and to Rian, Jill, Yasin, Rachel, and every person who has poured into making Captivating what it is today. I’m really proud that one tiny chapter of those 15 years gets to have my name on it. Nowwww… see you all TOMORROW. ❤️‍🔥👑 Happy 15th, Captivating. Let’s make it a good one. 🥂 #CaptivatingPageants #BeYouBeDifferentBeCaptivating #Pageant #PageantWeekend #FormerPageantQueen by @studiormpageants
