A beautiful Roman sestertius of Antoninious Pius. I found this absolute stunner a few weeks back. 1800 years in the ground until i stumbled across it.

I found this unbelievable bronze figurine, I think it’s Roman, and I think it’s of the goddess Minerva, what do you think? Is this an incredible rare Roman object?

Such an incredible mix of finds and a diverse representation of history, everything here from a modern dog tag through to a Roman coin. We found a silver sixpence, a Roman votive axe, a lead spindle whorl, a George 2nd half penny along with various bits of buckle and buttons.. showing the extensive rich history of England through the ages all in one box, from one field, on one afternoon.. this is why I love metal detecting.

Finding Roman Silver in Suffolk is amazing, especially when you consider this going was minted 125 years before the Romans successfully took over Britain. It blows my mind!

A little snippet of the best day of detecting I’ve had in a long time, you don’t get days like this very often. The Minelab Manticore is an absolute weapon.

This beautiful Little object was found on a site where I have recovered lots of Roman coins. It has a beautiful green patina and certainly shows signs of real age. Could this be a Roman votive axe? What do you think?

A tiny little hammered Edward 1st silver farthing. This is why you should always dig the low numbers with your #manticore this tiny little coin rang up at 12-13 on the VDI. Don’t ignore those low number targets you never know just what you might unearth.

A Roman Republican silver denari, this beautiful coin dates to around 82 BCE which means this coin was minted 125 years before the Romans successfully landed in Britain.. it’s a tantalising, yet, perfectly plausible prospect, that the coin was brought over with a travelling soldier. I wonder just how it came to be lost in a field in this quiet corner of Suffolk. This is what metal detecting is all about, the curiosity, the stories, the history and of course, the beautiful objects we find.

A serious day of metal detecting. This field has long been one of my favourite places to metal detect, however, in the last year or so, the field had become a little quiet.Fearing that I had found most of what was to be found here I left the field alone.
Then at the start of the year, as part of the farming cycle, it was deep ploughed for the first time in a few years and because it had been ploughed, I decided to go out for the afternoon to see if any new finds were to be had and I’m so glad I did because this field that I thought it was all but done, came back to life and spectacular fashion. That afternoon the field produced 5 more silver coins, including a William III silver sixpence, 3 hammered mediaeval coins and yet another Roman silver denari. It’s days like this that every detectorist dreams of. Head over to my YouTube channel to watch the day unfold.
