We’re excited to announce Summer Place Theatre’s 2027 season! The Drowsy Chaperone June 18–27, 2027 Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Golden Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight. Music and Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison Book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar Into the Woods July 16–August 1, 2027 In 2027, we’ll celebrate the 40th anniversary of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. We look forward to sharing both shows with our audiences next summer. More information about the 2027 season will be announced in the months ahead. by @summerplacetheater
