📣 Hip Hop Bursary Shoutout: Gee 📣 Gee, a hip-hop artist from Ayrshire, Scotland. Since dropping “IYKYK” in April 2026 I’ve put out nine singles and several music videos. My music stays honest with real life storytelling about struggle, personal battles, growth and resilience from someone who’s lived it and is still figuring it out. My project is to produce an industry level music video for my track “I Remember”, taking listeners through ages 13-21 of my life and the progress, lessons and reflection that followed. This is a clear step up from previous work, with a professional videographer, high quality mix and filming across three locations for a more complete viewing experience. 🎤 SCOTTISH HIP HOP FRIDAY SPOTLIGHT – SOOM T 🎤 This week we're shining the spotlight on one of Glasgow's most distinctive and internationally respected voices – SOOM T Born and raised in Glasgow, Soom T has spent over two decades carving out her own path in music, blending hip hop, reggae, dub, dancehall and soundsystem culture into a sound that's entirely her own. Her journey started in Glasgow's underground hip-hop scene as the lead vocalist with Monkeytribe, before collaborating with artists and producers including Tigerstyle, The Orb and Glasgow's own Mungo's Hi Fi. Known as the Scottish Raggamuffin Queen, she's built an international following through her unmistakable flow, fearless lyrics and powerful live performances. But there's always been more to Soom T than music. Her work has consistently challenged injustice, questioned authority and given a voice to people and communities too often overlooked. From Glasgow's underground to stages across Europe and beyond, Soom T has shown what can happen when you stay true to your roots and refuse to compromise your sound. Her catalogue includes Free As a Bird , Born Again, The Arch, Good and Vision, her 2025 collaboration with Manudigital. She's proof that Scottish hip hop has never fitted neatly into one box. It's always been a culture of different voices, influences and sounds. Massive respect to Soom T for representing Glasgow and taking her music around the world. If you've not checked her music out, get listening! Scottish Hip Hop Friday Spotlight — celebrating the artists, pioneers and people who have helped build Scotland's hip-hop culture. 📻 Sunny Govan Radio | 103.5 FM | sunnyg.org by @sunnygradio
📣 Hip Hop Bursary Shoutout Miran @lil_fuse_ 📣 From the heart of Kurdistan to the vibrant streets of Glasgow, I am an artist on a definitive mission. When I arrived in Scotland in 2023, I discovered a powerful dual purpose in hip-hop: I use the rhythm and rhyme of rap not only to master the English language but to bridge two worlds. My music is a compelling sonic tapestry, seamlessly weaving the rich cultural heritage and storytelling of my homeland with the raw, gritty energy of the modern Scottish rap scene. I’m talking about what is going on in my community I want to share with world all so I have more projects in a future. This bursary will cover the costs of a laptop, a microphone, an audio interface and headphones. This set-up will allow me to make my songs anytime I want to and I will also use it to help my friends in the same situations record their songs. We are looking forward to hearing Miran's new music soon. #glasgow #hiphop #rap #sunnygovan #hiphopbursary by @sunnygradio

FRIDAY SCOTTISH HIP HOP SPOTLIGHT LOKI – aka Darren McGarvey This Friday we're shining the spotlight on one of the most important and influential voices to emerge from Scottish hip hop –Loki, aka Darren McGarvey. Coming out of Pollok in Glasgow's south side, Loki was part of a generation of MCs who helped establish that Scottish hip hop didn't need to imitate America or anywhere else. We could rap in our own accents, tell our own stories and represent the communities we came from. Raw, intelligent, confrontational and never afraid to challenge the establishment, Loki used hip hop to tackle poverty, addiction, class, politics and the realities of growing up in working-class Scotland. From early releases like Friendly World and Summer Knows a Darker Shade of Grey to the ambitious concept albums Government Issue Music Protest and trigger Warning his music has consistently pushed boundaries and challenged listeners to think. His journey eventually took him beyond hip hop and into national recognition as a writer, broadcaster and social commentator. His groundbreaking book Poverty Safari won the prestigious Orwell Prize in 2018, bringing conversations about poverty, inequality and working-class life to a much wider audience. But long before the books, television documentaries and awards, there was an MC with something to say and the courage to say it in his own voice. Loki's contribution to Scottish hip hop goes far beyond music. He helped demonstrate that our accents, our experiences and our communities deserve to be heard. Whether you agree with everything he says or not, his impact on Scottish hip hop and wider public debate is undeniable. Respect to Loki a genuine trailblazer of Scottish hip hop. 👇 What's your favourite Loki track, album or memory? Let us know in the comments! by @sunnygradio

The bursary will cover the recording of the final 5 tracks, professional mixing and mastering to bring the project to a release-ready standard. Funding will also support the production of a music video for the lead single, helping promote the EP and reach new audiences. It's not just about Glasgow or the bigger cities — it's about helping hip hop grow in communities right across Scotland, supporting the people putting in the work on the ground and making sure the next generation has opportunities to get involved. Whether he's hosting battles, getting involved in cyphers or helping behind the scenes, DunLee represents something fundamental to hip hop: community, respect, participation and keeping the culture alive.
