HOW DO YOU AFFORD TO START TRAVELLING?

Get asked this question quite a lot and there’s no easy answer but these are some things I do to help save:

1. Work, a lot. A lot of the money I saved was during covid when I worked as much as I could. I don’t do anything fancy, just a couple casual jobs but pick up as many hours as I can.

2. Eat seasonally. When I shop for groceries I try buy what’s in season as that will be whats cheapest and most in abundance.

3. Make use of any fruit and veg crops that you or your family/friends might have.

4. Cook your own meals, especially for work/uni. Not only will it save you money, it’s healthier too.

5. Try to not buy unnecessary items you don’t need, like new clothes or makeup. If I need new clothes I tend to check out what the op shop has first. I also don’t spend money on things like getting my nails or lashes done.

6. Get rid of any subscriptions you don’t use, such as streaming services, applications.

7. Limit how much you drink/party. Alcohols expensive..

8. Of course still go out, do the tings you like to do and have fun but just remember what you’re saving for.

9. Spend time in nature, it’s free :)

Of course this is going to differ from person to person but these are just some of things I try to do. A lot of it comes from just prioritising what’s important to you and allocating your money in a way that will allow you to save.
