Welcome to @surpasssocial ; where I’ll squeeze the good ideas right out of your notes app and onto a public platform you’re proud of 🐍💗

Buenos! 🐍 I’m Les, the person behind @surpasssocial :

Your realistic resource for navigating social media, Squarespace, and content creation (from the 💗)

After almost 5 years of full-time content creation for various projects and clients, I finally put these thumbs to work on creating a platform of my own.

I don’t have a big fancy agency or online network (yet 😎)

… but I DO have a special set of skills for putting movement behind your ideas, creating visuals that represent your visions, and streamlining the path to get the goal out of your notes app and onto a platform that you’re proud of 👩‍💻

I love what I do for work and I am very lucky to do it, but I’m also just as uncertain about taking this big step as the average client I’ve worked with!

Which got me thinking : what better demonstration of the real time platform building process can I provide for my clients… than my very own experience as I build from scratch?

So that’s what you can expect—

1. every trick of the trade I’ve learned on a platter (or reel lol)
2. personal and transparent insights on best practices
3. a steady stream of ORIGINAL social media tips 🚫🤖
4. my unwavering conviction that your ideas deserve life

I’ll start with one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned, which is:

there is more than enough success, internet, creativity, and knowledge to go around 🍽️

There’s no reason to hold back… we all have a story to share, a purpose to fulfill, or a dream to realize and we’re only here for a minute.

Let’s surprise ourselves 🪄

Why I can’t live without these apps as a professional content creator, and how much they cost me each month…

InShot has been my trusty video creation app for YEARS, we’re talking pre-reels. It’s extremely user friendly and very similar to the new Instagram Edits app, but… as you may know… IG can be glitchy. While I use InShot a bit less these days, it is still my go to for more complex/edit heavy video projects that I can’t entrust to Instagram’s moody ass 😅

Aside from serving as a great landing page platform for those who aren’t ready to launch a website or have one under construction (🙋‍♀️) Linktree allows you to program auto-replies so that you can prompt viewers to “comment WORD” for a DM of the link to your service/offering/etc. It’s a super cool feature that can help you track traffic and generate more engagement on your posts.

Take my eyes, but not my Canva 🙏 I create (almost) every carousel you see on this account (including this one) on Canva. I have branded entire businesses on Canva. I create every infographic/flyer for my job as a marketing director on Canva. It is without a doubt the app I use the most and it’s essential for sharing, organizing, and collab-ing on projects. You can also get familiar/create so much with the free version!

Riverside is essential for long-form video creation, but it’s also a lifesaver when you need studio-quality sound without studio-style equipment. Decent audio is non-negotiable these days, even for short form content like reels, and Riverside is super compatible when moving between your desktop/mobile 🤳

These apps save me dozens of hours each week on the technical side of content creation (which if you’re not careful, can zap your energy PDQ!)

Any apps you can’t live without that I should know about? 👀 by @surpasssocial

that’s the goal anyway 💗💁‍♀️

1. Text overlay for b-roll footage or a static post:

“This may be too niche, but I love it when… (name/describe a highly specific sign of success that your client or target audience may be striving for or can already relate to)

Example: “This may be too niche… but I love it when my clients stop trying to curate the perfect aesthetics and start posting themselves in their natural state of existence”

2. Text overlay for a static or carousel post:

“I don’t know who tried to hurt you but… (dispell 1-3 myths or beliefs that hold your target audience back)”

Example: “I don’t know who tried to hurt you… but blocking people who kill your vibe is a viable option!”

(one example per slide)

3. Text overlay for reel of b-roll footage or carousel:

“You might know me as a (your profession/expertise here) but did you know I’m also a… (list all of the other roles/identities you fill in your life)”

Example: “You might know me as a content creator, but did you know I’m also a: dog mom, sister, immigrant, former ballerina, sun worshipper, Pilates enthusiast, early bird, Ravens fan…”

A mix of relatable and a little out of the ordinary works best!

Idk, does #3 need a template?
I think so… brb 💁‍♀️ by @surpasssocial

Blew it a whole bunch this week, but that’s not the important part. The important part is I forgive myself for every last bit, learn from it (or at least notice it) and keep it moving ✌️

Will you spend the weekend beating yourself up for things no one else noticed/cared about, or will you spend the weekend restoring your energy?

As for me, I’ll be on a paddle board, in the elements, resting and regenerating my creativity, connecting with people in my community, weeding my severely overgrown yard, and most importantly, snuggling with my dog…

because what is the point of being your own boss/business owner if you work every weekend?

Love you 💗🐍 by @surpasssocial
