Visit THE FOLD. Link in our bio. by @susansentler
Thank you @carol.wyss and @richard_ducker for their insightful talks, ‘Size Matters’ and ‘Reptiles in Space’ for Virga Ozone! It has been a great start to the programme! These artists have raised topics of scale and the body as a tool measure, along with notions of displacement and dislocation that relate to our current exhibition, The Fold, in Gallery I. Visit us at virgagallery.net and sign our guest register to see The Fold. by @susansentler
I have 3 digital artworks - photographic images, f/olding, entangled f/olded script, and hanging f/olds, selected for the exhibition ‘The Fold: An Exhibition of Divergence’ with @__virga__gallery and @__cloud__collective. All three works tethered to my ongoing research, a collaboration with Dr Glenna Batson, ‘the f/old as somatic\artistic practice’. I am excited to be alongside a wonderful group of artists. The exhibition developed by Dr Jane Boyer jane_boyer with assistance by Dr Gemma Marmalade @gemmamarmalade. From 30th September 2026 to 31st January 2027 Venue: Virga Gallery, online Visit: www.virgagallery.net The show’s starting point from the philosophical thinking of Gilles Deleuze and his publication“The Fold: Leibniz and the Baroque.” Rather than approaching the fold simply as a visual form, the exhibition considers it as a condition through which ideas, bodies, materials, and experiences continually act upon and transform one another. As Boyer concludes in her curatorial statement, “The Fold is infinite change; our challenge is finding the resilience to flow with the change.” by @susansentler

Dear all, I will be sharing a performance workshop @siobhandaviesstudios for Crit Space 5, 7 June, 3-5pm. "f/olding, subversive shapeshaping of reading" I will be using ‘the f/old as somatic\artistic practice’, for a performative reading workshopping... partnering an array of legal documentation. Words/meaning becoming hidden, revealed, transformed through embodied redaction. This is a re-entering of a proposition, invited by IALS (institute of advanced legal studies) for their Dance and Legal Materialities Network: Embodied acts of Reading, 13 November 2025. Booking via link @siobhandaviesstudios Crit Space is a non-judgmental space for artists to share live performance and receive feedback - led by @billygigurtsis hosted by SDS. Hope to see you there! x by @susansentler
Teaching Design-Infrequent Newsletter #13 On Embodied Knowledge & Body-Based Approaches in Design Education Curated in collaboration with In Figuring Out (IFO), a global network of designers and educators — Emma Hoette, Sara Kaaman, Nicole Schumann-Sizaret, Susan Sentler, Emily Smith, Silvia Sfligiotti, Vivien Tauchmann, and Micaela Terk — coming together with a shared urgency to form more critically inclusive design praxis, rooted in body-based design research, practice, and pedagogy. This edition is split into three central themes, reflecting a selection of IFO's inquiries: (1) Fumbling Through Disorientation: Introspection & Improvisation in Design Education, (2) Embodied Learning as Decolonial Praxis: Contested Bodies and Classrooms, and (3) Labor Choreographies & Disembodied Productivity: Feeling Our Work. Don't miss the edition — subscribe below https://bib.teaching-design.net/Subscribe Thank you to the wonderful Lisa Baumgarten for the invitation and amazing support. @emma_hoette @sarakaaman @fluent.pt @emilysmithberlin @sflilvia @vvntchmnn @terkme by @susansentler
entering the f/old - workshopping the f/old as somatic\artistic practice What can a fold be? A vessel, womb, pocket, pleat, crease, cavern … an/other way to enter corporeality through the discovery of the vibrancy of thinginess. These workshoppings/events will embrace the f/old – a practice of somatic\artistic making – of letting things appear. The praxis, a collaboration, developed since 2013, with the extraordinary practitioner Glenna Batson, has provided a unique means of approaching and challenging default modes of artmaking. Within the series, through the lens of the f/old, we will explore 'themes/plots' such as: light/edge decay drift corporeal carrier bag Bi-weekly Class series from 1-4pm EDT, 6-9pm UK time on: June 13, June 27, July 11 and July 25 https://ismeta.org/course/entering-the-f-old-workshopping-the-f-old-as-somaticartistic-practice join in this divine entanglement! an invitation to enter and re-enter with embodied curiosity. @ismeta_association by @susansentler
Entering the f/old – workshopping the f/old as somatic\artistic practice Join transdisciplinary artist Susan Sentler for an exploration of „The Fold“ – a concept inspired by French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, who proposed that the smallest unit of matter is not the point, but the fold. This means we never come to a full stop; we’re always creating new patterns and possibilities. Workshop Details: • Free Introduction: Saturday, May 9th (1 hour) • Full Workshop: Four sessions starting June 13th • Special Offer: Attend the free intro and receive a €50 voucher for the full workshop What to Expect: The Fold integrates somatic inquiry with art-making, allowing participants to notice and challenge their default patterns through body-based awareness. Originally developed with colleague Glenna Batson starting in 2013, this practice welcomes anyone curious about movement and making – not just dancers. Participants will engage in experiential „dives“ using paper of different sizes and textures, drawing tools, and comfortable clothing in a safe space. The workshop has no predetermined outcomes; it’s informative rather than formative, co-created with participants through improvisation. The practice attracts visual artists, architects, sound artists, and dancers alike, often leading movement-based people to explore other modalities and vice versa. Susan continues this work as a custodian of Glenna Batson’s legacy, using their co-created scripts to maintain her colleague’s voice and spirit in the practice. What You Need: Paper (various sizes/textures), drawing/writing tools, comfortable clothing, and an open, curious mind. by @susansentler
