Our dedicated staff members Aidan and Julian have created an updated local vendor map to inform shoppers where a majority of our products are sourced from! 🍂Today's the day! 🍂 🦃Thanksgiving ordering is live! Please check out the online menu or pick up a paper one in-store to browse, pre-order, and get ready for your Thanksgiving feasts with our help, right here at the Swarthmore CO-OP! It's tiiiiiiiiiime! 🦃 Thanksgiving pre-ordering will go live this Sunday 11/1 and we got all your favorites from fresh & local raw turkeys, meat & cheese trays, sushi trays, all your favorite sides, and don't forget the pies! The Swarthmore CO-OP has all you need to make your holiday perfect this year! ALL orders must be placed online from November 1-November 18th! As usual, our turkeys come from Howe's Turkey Farm located near by in Downingtown, PA. We have worked with Howe for years and while there are typically incremental price changes, this year has proven very challenging for small farms in terms of significantly higher feed, fuel, operational, and labor costs. It is not an easy decision, but we are forced to raise the price for Howe’s whole birds this year to $6.99/lb. Additionally, we are only able to offer whole birds and bone-in breasts for preorder on our Holiday Menu. Other turkey parts such as legs, wings, and necks will be available in-store with very limited quantities. by @swacoop
“There’s something powerful about people coming together and investing in their own community. I think that’s why the co-op movement resonates with so many people, including me,” says Anne Shuniak. She’s the third member-owner of the @westchestercooperative which just opened its doors after a decade of development to rave reviews from the local community. Join us and communities across the country in celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day today, October 12th! This is a day to honor the culture, history, and contributions of the Indigenous People nationwide! Specifically, the Mid-Atlantic region including Swarthmore, was once part of Lenapehoking (Lenni-Lenape Land). You may even notice some names of towns and roads in this area that are direct references to this tribe. Coinciding with National CO-OP month, many lasting practices from Indigenous American cultures have influenced the philosophy of cooperatives worldwide! Prior to colonization, many agriculture-based tribes relied heavily on the community as a whole to tend to and process the food they ate. Community effort to source food is what our CO-OP was founded on in 1937 thanks to influence from Indigenous cultures and beyond! We encourage you to learn about the rich Indigenous history of our area and all around! There are plenty of great resources around Delco! Check out your local libraries (like our friends over at the Swarthmore Public Library) or reach out to the lovely folks at the Delaware County Historical Society in Media. by @swacoop
This month‘s sandwich at the @swacoop was designed by our wonderful Library supporter, Lou Kratz. Be sure to stop by the co-op and try “Lessons in Kimchi-stry”, a vegetarian bahn-mi like sandwich. Lou was the winner of our 2026 Casino Night raffle to design a signature sandwich at the Swarthmore co-op! 🥪 by @swacoop
