Thank you to everyone who joined us for the launch of A Maior’s latest novella Retail Vérité: Vancouverama. Special thanks to artist and member of A Maior, Bruno Zhu, for the captivating reading; to @sweetceralmountain for hosting us at their very special small gallery in Robson Public Market; and Nine Dumplings for the tasty celebratory snacks! If you want to get your hands on a book, copies are available in-person at Western Front or online via co-publishers @artmetropole and @bierkebooks. A Toronto launch will also take place this Thursday, Mar 26, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Art Metropole, featuring a conversation between Bruno Zhu and writer Derek McCormack. — Images: Launch of Retail Vérité: Vancouverama at Sweet Cereal Mountain, Mar 21, 2026. Launch of Retail Vérité: Vancouverama Saturday, Mar 21, 2026, 1:00 p.m. At Sweet Cereal Mountain, 1610 Robson Street Free (Registration recommended) Link in bio for more info. Retail Vérité: Vancouverama is the outcome of writing workshops led by A Maior at Western Front in February 2025. Through a blend of improvisation, LARPing, and speed dating, the participants sketched the characters, narrative, and setting in real time. Operating in the spirit of exquisite corpse, the workshops were led by improvisational exchanges triggered by prompts. As a result, the collective writing process generated its own distinctive, internal logic that navigates thoughts on commerce, fashion, and popular culture to draw a portrait of contemporary retail phenomena. The workshop included James Albers, Kathy Feng, Manon Fraser, Fiona Glen, Tiziana La Melia, Ben Lickerman, Trey Le, August Mesic, Nina Ortiz, Paige Smid, Kiel Torres, and Yasmine Whaley-Kalaora. The book launch takes place off-site at Sweet Cereal Mountain, with a reading by Bruno Zhu of A Maior, followed by a reception upstairs in the Robson Public Market food court. Retail Vérité: Vancouverama ($25) is available for pre-order during online registration, and for purchase at the event. @brunozhu @sweetcerealmountain by @sweetcerealmountain
