Hop on the hype train now!! Chooo choooo!!! by @swguiles

I thought the mix was finished. Larry had thoughts. #studio #mixing #tapeop by @swguiles

Back in 2017, my friend Wendy called and asked
if I wanted to sing background vocals on a
Damien Jurado record.

I almost said no. I had kids in elementary school,
a job, a whole day to rearrange.

I figured it out. I showed up.

The other singers were real studio vocalists —
people who sight-read in real time, who do this
professionally. That’s not me. But it wasn’t
that kind of session. It was about feel.
And I fit in fine.

A few years before that session, I had recorded
a cover of Magic by Coldplay. Wendy played it
for Damien. He told her he really dug it.

When she passed that on to me I almost lost my mind.

That cover — the one Damien Jurado heard —
is now part of a collection of demos I just made
available exclusively to people on my email list.
Four songs. Warts and all.

When your own mind is “evil”, it’s impossible to escape. That’s the insidious nature of religious indoctrination. I’m free of it now, but I spent literal DECADES living in fear and repression.

If you’ve read this far you could do me a favor. In 19 days my new single Hot Picture With It releases on all streaming platforms. If you’ve read could presave the single by going to the link in my bio, that would be amazing. Thank you!!

Mixing at @jackpotrecording was definitely a musical highlight from this year. by @swguiles

I’d never written a song that was meant to be sexual, because it was so taboo. So “Hot Picture With It” was a way for me to write about sexual expression, and about repression.

I wrote the whole story to my email list this week, including the drums I’m so proud of and Joel Clifft’s organ playing. Comment LAMB and I’ll send it to you.

What albums did you grow up with that you were told they were demonic? #purityculture #demonic #deconstruction #exvangelical #bannedmusic by @swguiles

I self-produced “Hot Picture With It” at home, singing and playing most of it myself and with my friends. Out November 19. Presave link in bio.

Growing up, Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell wasn’t allowed in our house. Most of MTV wasn’t.

What wasn’t allowed in yours?

“Hot Picture With It” comes out November 19. Presave link in bio.

Every couple weeks I write my email list, The Lamb, about the stories behind these songs. This one was about growing up when everything was a sin.
