Life is Proper.. Appreciative and Grateful For it All!

7/9. by @swole_li

I’m blessed and excited to announce that my moms, Ms. Vera “Mama Vera” Warren-Williams, owner of THE one and only Community Book Center which has been operating as pillar in the community for over 40 years, is officially back at THE @essence Festival of Culture as the exclusive book partner after 14 years. Before this hiatus, she created the first book experience for the illustrious event and held that position for 17 years.

Now, this one means a lot to ya boy because I was born the day after the last day of Essence, and ever since then I grew up watching my mom become the epitome of what Essence represents and stands for which to me is a black woman of culture, community, resilience, love, knowledge, and purpose. And now, after 14 years, she’s back bringing that same historical New Orleans culture, literary legacy, and true community spirit back to Essence.

Even after Essence moved in another direction years ago, my mom never stopped. She never does yo😭 But after her absence in Essence for 14 years, she stayed determined to still create an event for local Black businesses, artists, vendors, authors, and most importantly the members of the community. That vision became HomeFest. A festival that is rooted in the true essence of community and togetherness.

Now, as a young adult, I’m proud to witness this 360 moment and even more motivated now to help her continue elevating Community Book Center for years to come.

Thank you Essence for this amazing opportunity again!! And congratulations to my mom, AKA Mama Vera. You deserve this and so much more 📚🤎!!!!

Y’all don’t be strangers na! Come on through tomorrow at the Book Festival section and come get a lil taste of that Community Book Center culture. You won’t regret it!!

LOVE YA OG!
