Wrapped up a fantastic weekend workshop at the Conference of Northern California Handweavers! Two weeks ago I got a call from a weaving mentor of mine asking if I could fill in for her and teach a workshop and I said yes I will do it. It’s been a WILD two weeks for me personally with a lot of ups and downs, but I got my ducks in a row and buckled down - cried a bit and made it through this stressful stretch.
I had a great time meeting so many new weavers and teaching them a class I took over 2 weeks before it was happening!! We painted warps -washed them with incredible speed - harnessed the wind and sun of Monterey to dry them and almost all 15 students left with their looms dressed or already weaving! Not just any weaving but parallel threading exploring echo Jin and more! I love getting to teach more advanced weaving classes!!!! I challenged them to use wild weft colors and watched as they fell in love with olive green and hot pink and see the magic they created when added to their hand painted warps!
I am exhausted and excited to keep exploring new avenues of teaching and now I am pretty sure I need to do another painted warp parallel threading project myself…
Thanks CNCH for a great welcome and experience!
Cherry on top was going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium today after the workshop was done!!!

First time showing my woven paintings at a big craft show and what a place to debut them!
Tell everyone you know in the DC area to come see this amazing show it is full of amazing artwork!

Weavings that embody the story of human horse connections with horsehair from my beloved Dolly, Charlie Brown ( my mom’s horse she lost last year) and a friend Irish pony Kieran bring life to each piece.

What to do with the shoes that horses wear out and can’t use anymore …. Make artwork out of them. A few are even from my horse!

It’s an interesting challenge to work on such a small scale with the tiny shoes up to the dinner plate sized one from one of the biggest horses I have ever known. No horses were hurt to collect the hair -they just got little hair cuts.

These horse shoe pieces will debut next week at the @smithsoniancraftshowsswc!
