Spring 2027 semester program applications open on May 15 at 9:00 AM! Santiago is waiting for you! by @syracuseusantiago

Hi everyone! My name is Isabella Gardea and I studied in Chile during the Fall 2025 semester and participated in the Pre-Semester Immersion Program in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I study International Relations and Spanish and plan to graduate in the Fall of 2026.

I chose to study in Santiago because I had already learned a little bit about it’s history and culture in a couple of classes I had taken at SU and thought it would be exciting to experience it in person. In addition, I felt that it fit perfectly with my majors in terms of coursework and it just seemed like a great opportunity to get to travel to South America.

One thing I loved about the Santiago program was being able to explore different areas of the city and different parts of Chile with the program staff. We had opportunities to attend guided tours of various neighborhoods, museums, and must-see sights. We also traveled to Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, and Patagonia as a group, learning about their historical and modern significance along the way. On top of these SU program trips, I also visited Colonia del Sacramento and Montevideo in Uruguay, traveled to the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, and hiked the ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru.

This experience has given me so many amazing new memories, experiences, and friends, and I will always be happy with my decision to study abroad in Chile. by @syracuseusantiago

¡Holyyyyyy! My name is Ella Roerden and I’m a double major in anthropology and international relations @maxwellschoolsu graduating spring 2027! I went to Santiago during the spring 2025 semester, and had the time of my life!

I chose Santiago because I had already spent a semester in Florence, Italy, and I wanted to experience something outside of Europe, but still at an SU center. Santiago was the perfect fit! I also appreciated the smaller nature of the program, which made it easy to become close with my cohort and the program staff. An experience that was easily the most memorable day of the program, and possibly of my whole life, was the day we spent boating through the Última Esperanza (Last Hope) Fjord in Patagonia. I have never felt so alive as I did standing on the boat with my friends, feeling the thrill of the fierce wind, glimpsing caves, rainbows, and cormorants as we approached an impressive glacier. I will never forget those moments! That’s just one example of how exhilarating Chile was.

With a thousand miles of coastline, Chile has so much to experience, and I’m so grateful I got to see so much of it. Traversing mountains, islands, volcanoes, beaches, lakes, and deserts, all alongside people who changed me for the better, was truly an opportunity I wouldn’t trade for anything! I learned so much about myself, the world, and my place in it during that semester, in addition to the rich and exciting curriculum offered.

I absolutely recommend anyone and everyone go spend a semester in Santiago! The memories I made there will stick with me always! by @syracuseusantiago

My name is Ohemaa Asibuo, and I am double majoring in International Relations and Spanish. I will be graduating in May 2027 and I studied abroad in Santiago,Chile in Fall 2025.

I had a wonderful time immersing myself in Chilean culture, be it with my friends or my host family. The Santiago program gave me the chance to develop so many skills, for example, my internship with the Museum of Memory and Human Rights helped me strengthen my analytical skills as well as my research skills. Additionally, all my classes being in Spanish really helped me improve. One of my most memorable experiences was definitely our trip to patagonia, we got so see so many beautiful mountains and sites, whiles learning about its history.
