T.T GOSHO-MINAMI EXHIBITION 02

Hirofumi Isoya, “Uji, A Distant Now” The word uji in the title is borrowed from the chapter of the same name in Dogen’s Shobogenzo. The term ordinarily means “at a certain time”. At the centre of the exhibition is Activation, an unglazed sphere. Fragments of Jomon pottery roughly five thousand years old were returned to mud and mixed with present day clay before being fired once again. Nothing on its surface tells the Jomon clay from the new. T.T GOSHO-MINAMI EXHIBITION 02

Hirofumi Isoya, “Uji, A Distant Now” Hirofumi Isoya studied architecture in Tokyo and art in London.
He makes the frame first and takes the photograph afterwards. He turns a photograph sepia and transfers its original colours onto one side of the frame. By rearranging the order of making and the relationship between image and object, he has explored the time contained in the act of seeing.
In this exhibition, that concern turns towards the history of a material. T.T GOSHO-MINAMI EXHIBITION 02

188 Sabi Gosho-Minami Light from the window falls on the tea utensils on the table. The way of tea holds a spirit that blends cultures and eras, captured in Murata Jukō’s call to blur the boundary between Japanese and Chinese. Pairing treasured Chinese wares with Japanese pieces of the day, it softened the line between old and new. The same spirit runs through T.T WOMEN, which brings together materials from around the world and Japanese techniques. Crossing eras and cultures, Sabi exists to awaken senses long held within us. Reservations are open for the S himozuki Saka Kaiseki, a pairing course of five teas and five confections.

188 Sabi Gosho-Minami At the centre stands a table cut from a single slab of jindai sugi, Japanese cedar buried for millennia beneath soil and volcanic ash, its colour deepened. Time carved by water and earth has become the landscape of its surface. The walls are clad in karakami printed with a drape motif, made with Kamisoe. In the light from the windows, its shadows shift. Here, a tea gathering on time begins, with sweets by Kyoto Okashimaru. Reservations are open for the Shimozuki Sakakaiseki, a pairing course of five teas and five confections.

188 Sabi Gosho-Minami Does the true value of making already lie in history? From this question, Taiga Takahashi reinterpreted the way of tea, a wellspring of Japanese art, and conceived a tea room as one of his own works: Sabi. Its name speaks of beauty that deepens as time passes. The room also revives ryurei, the table style of tea devised by Gengensai, eleventh head of Urasenke, as Japan turned towards the West. Where Sabi at T.T Gion shuts out artificial light almost entirely, here a large opening admits light reflected off the white walls of the storehouse opposite. Two tea rooms of one name, two expressions of light. Reservations are open for the Shimozuki Chaka Kaiseki, a pairing course of five teas and five confections.

https://www.tablecheck.com/ja/shops/sabi-goshominami/reserve T.T 御所南

188 Sabi Gosho-Minami Sweetness was never the whole of confectionery. In creating the confections for Sabi, Okashimaru looked back a century or two, to a time when sugar was precious and confections were made with fruit, vegetables and salt. The kuzuyaki Awai draws on the blurred line between food and confections in records of tea gatherings from the 16th and 17th centuries, exploring the space between sweet and salty. The monaka Sunafu layers maitake cream over red bean paste, lending sweet adzuki a faint scent of the fields. Unearthing the confections of the past and offering them as flavours of today, her work resonates with T.T’s Applied Archaeology, which revives what the past has handed down and carries it forward. Reservations are open for the Shimozuki Saka Kaiseki, a pairing course of five teas and five confections.

188 Sabi Gosho-Minami For Okashimaru based in Kyoto, confections are a medium of time. Unlike sculpture, a confection vanishes as it is eaten. In that sense of disappearance, the opposite of a stone statue, lies Okashimaru's aesthetic. The kohakuto Utsuroi draws on the time expressed in Takahashi’s Infinity Pillar, its flavour shifting as you eat from summer’s passion fruit and raspberry to autumn’s osmanthus. The kinton Ai no Aya, echoing the twill of T.T denim, wraps banana bean paste in threads of yam and white adzuki paste. The yukihira mochi Shirotae, shaped like softly swaying drapery, conceals caramelised white adzuki paste. Reservations are open for the Shimozuki Saka Kaiseki, a pairing course of five teas and five confections.

188 Sabi Gosho-Minami Taiga Takahashi envisioned Sabi as a way of tea savoured with all five senses. Through the design of its tea and confections, it revives the Japanese aesthetic sense and a reverence for nature. The gathering offers five teas: gyokuro and hojicha from Seichabo Kaei, matcha from Horii Shichimeien, lapsang souchong from Inun, and a breakfast blend from teteria. The lapsang souchong is a Chinese black tea smoked over pine; the breakfast blend is paired with fig leaf. The teas of Japan meet those that crossed the sea. Light, season and the company at the table make each sitting unrepeatable. Ichigo ichie: cup by cup, tea and confections mark that singular time. Reservations are open for the Shimoyuki Saka Kaiseki, a pairing course of five teas and five confections.

Founded by Taiga Takahashi, T.T has moved from clothing into sculpture, architecture and tea through Applied Archaeology, reviving the relics of the past and unearthing the artefacts of the future. At its root lies a question of time, which led Takahashi, through his sculpture Infinity Pillar, to a point of origin beyond culture and era. The cycles of nature offer a clue: endless emergence and disappearance, no moment repeated, yet a certain universality. Water is the most familiar example, marking the persistence of time in its very change. Through the circulation and change of water, this exhibition considers the point of origin. 28 October to 1 November 2026 T.T Gosho-Minami Sabi Gosho-Minami 188 Tawarayacho, Tominokoji Dori Nijo Sagaru, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, Japan @tomokosauvage @izumi_kan Creative Direction : Yusuke Nakano @yusukenakano7 SA.NA @sa.na_inc Exhibition design : Takashi Suo Atsuki Onogi @suo.takashi @atsukionogi Sound : WHITELIGHT Graphic design : thought. @thought_jpn Text : Kumiko Idaka @idakakumiko1002 English translation : Ko Ueoka @ko_ueoka Videography ： Yusuke Ishida @yusukeishida by @t.t_goshominami

Tomoko Sauvage, In Curved Water (2010) Kan Izumi, Research on Olfactive Display(2025) Ice hung in a rib knit fishing net drips into a porcelain bowl, where a hydrophone carries each drop’s resonance into the space. As the room’s temperature and the water level shift, so do the frequency, tonality and rhythm of each drop. The result is an improvised performance of synchrony and asynchrony shaped by chance. A beam of light casts the water’s trembling onto the ceiling. Like water, never twice the same, the point of origin does not wait at the end of a journey back in time.
