As part of National Adolescent and Youth Mental Health Week (NAYMHW) 2026, our partner @tabithaempowermentcentre engaged the students at Capital City of Knowledge International School, Azhata in conversations about their mental health so that every student knows they are seen, heard, and never alone.

Growing up comes with pressure, and many young people carry it quietly. Open conversations like this give them safe spaces to speak, ask questions, and find the support they need.

Mental health matters, especially in our schools. This National School Mental Health Day 2026, Tabitha Empowerment Centre, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and ISEEA, is taking the conversation to Capital City of Knowledge International School, Azhata, Abuja.

Through our Girls Vanguard, we are promoting mental health awareness, encouraging open conversations, strengthening peer support, and challenging the stigma surrounding mental health among young people.

Every student deserves a safe space to speak, feel heard, and thrive. 💚

The conversation starts with a girl. The change starts when we listen. 💜

Yesterday, our Girls Vanguard champions, Ikpemosimhe Oshiogiemhe and Zuwera Shaibu, took the message to their fellow students at Marie International Christian Academy, Jikwoyi, Abuja, during a sensitisation session commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child.

Under the theme “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights,” the girls engaged their peers on the importance of protecting girls’ rights and creating a future where every girl can learn, grow, and pursue her dreams free from child marriage.

Our Executive Director was also present to support the champions and reinforce our commitment to building a society where girls are heard, protected, and empowered.

At Tabitha Empowerment Centre, we believe girls should not only be part of conversations about their future; they should be empowered to lead them.

Because when girls speak up, change finds its voice. 💜

In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl child 2026, Lady Helen Child Health Foundation (LHCHF) celebrated the Girl Child at National Assembly, Abuja, bringing together students from selected secondary schools across Abuja
The event, themed “Every Girl Deserves the Right to Learn, Lead and Choose Her Future,” featured students from Government Model Secondary School, Jikwoyi; Government Secondary School, Karu; Government Secondary School, Nyanya; Government Secondary School, Wuse; and Police Day Secondary School Garki, Girls Vanguard, accompanied by their teachers.
The programme was structured around a Girls’ Parliamentary Debate, designed to simulate a National Assembly session and provide girls with the opportunity to experience parliamentary engagement, express their views, and contribute their perspectives on issues affecting the girl child.
The event was attended by Dr. Benjamin Odeka, Chief Executive Officer of LHCHF, and Dr. Francisca Odeka, Director of Operations at LHCHF and Managing Director of Frandek Consulting International Limited, the Immediate Past head of service- Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON,mni, Ministry of health, alongside other partners, dignitaries from various professional backgrounds.
The parliamentary debate provided a platform for the students to demonstrate their knowledge, public-speaking skills, and understanding of issues affecting girls in society.
The event also featured the presentation of gifts and awards to recognise and appreciate the participants and the schools
The celebration concluded with a renewed call for families, schools, policymakers, and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment where every girl can access quality education, develop her leadership potential, and make informed choices about her future. And one of the policy demand was that the government should amend the universal basic education to make education fully free, compulsory, and safe for all girls all the way up to SS3backed by government funded buses
