10 Things I Learned as an Art Director 🎨
1️⃣ Give options if you want approvals faster.
People decide easier when they can compare.
2️⃣ You don’t have to know everything.
You just need to know who to talk to.
3️⃣ Design consistency is trained, not instructed.
It comes from repetition and shared standards.
4️⃣ Repeat the objective.
Not everyone catches it the first time.
5️⃣ Start with a clear brief.
Never start a project with unanswered questions in your head.
6️⃣ Offer better options, not commands.
We guide clients through choices, we don’t impose them.
7️⃣ Never override your design files.
Save versions — you never know when a client wants to revert.
8️⃣ Set presentation deadlines for your team.
Check in regularly so no one struggles silently.
9️⃣ Step in when your designers are overwhelmed.
Leadership means carrying the weight together.
🔟 Stay beside your juniors.
Never let them clean up the mess alone.
