#AfroPeruvian

One of the highlights of our time in Peru was experiencing the incredible rhythm and energy of Afro Peruvian music. 🇵🇪 Music and dance have a beautiful way of telling a culture’s story. Watching these talented performers share their traditions with such passion and joy was a memorable experience and a wonderful reminder of Peru’s rich cultural heritage. Moments like these make travel so much more than visiting new places. They allow us to connect with the heart and soul of a country through its people, history, and traditions. Thank you, Peru, for another unforgettable experience. ❤️🇵🇪 #Peru #AfroPeruvian #PeruvianCulture #TravelPeru #music

What a beautiful way to celebrate Fiestas Patrias! 🇵🇪❤️💃🏽 This sunset boat party had everything. Live music, Afro Peruvian and folkloric dance, incredible singers, delicious Peruvian food, a DJ keeping everyone on the dance floor, and one of the most beautiful sunsets on the Hudson. A special thank you to our dance teacher, Cynthia Paniagua, founder of Dance Your Ancestors, for inviting us after her beautiful performance. It made the night even more special. As the daughter of Peruvian immigrants and the first generation in my family born in the U.S., there is something really special about being surrounded by fellow Peruvians. Even if we have never met before, it feels like home. I leave nights like this feeling more connected to my culture, my community, and myself. Thank you to Pasache Trends for bringing our community together and creating such a beautiful celebration of Peruvian culture. And thank you to all of the incredible artists who made the evening unforgettable: ✨ Cynthia Paniagua & Dance Your Ancestors ✨ Iraida Valdivia ✨ Gaby Hayre ✨ Sandy C ✨ Miguel Poggi ✨ Ricardo Seclén ✨ César Ferreyra ✨ Franco Ferrer ✨ Ballet Folklórico Acuarelas del Perú ✨ Valentín Luna ✨ Emy M ✨ Nene Blass ✨ Chef Fabián Márquez ✨ DJ Ludy & Co. Happy Fiestas Patrias to all my fellow Peruvians around the world! 🇵🇪 Our official Independence Days are July 28 and 29, but we all know the celebration is far from over. ¡Que viva el Perú! ❤️🤍❤️

VAMOOOSSS! Let's meet the Teaching Artists of Dance Your Ancestors program ! ✅ LINK IN BIO to be a part of this! 🇵🇪🔥 Here is the amazing Percy Chinchilla jammin' on the cajón, the Peruvian box drum, at the heart of Afro Peruvian music and dance. 🙏🏽🇵🇪❤ I'm so grateful that he accepted the invitation to teach 'Ritmos de Cajón' to participants of Dance Your Ancestors program ! I love how he emphasizes the importance of connection between spirit, dancer & musician. His class focuses on the evolution of various Afro Peruvian rhythms. In round 1 (of DYA), we learned to play the basic rhythms of Festejo, Lando, Son de los Diablos and Zamacueca. ARE YOU READY FOR ROUND 2? ✅ ROUND 2 of Dance Your Ancestors is accepting 5 - 8 individuals who are ready to dive into our roots with an emphasis on : AFRO PERUVIAN DANCE. We begin virtually in late November and travel to Peru on February 15th for our 10 day dance intensive. 🇵🇪💯💃🏽 ✅ If you would like to learn more and take this dancing journey to roots, click the link in my bio and schedule a call ! 🔥💃🏽🇵🇪 We all love dancing to that unique hypnotic sound of the cajón, but our experience gets amplified 100 times when we learn to play the rhythms and take that knowledge into our dancing bodies. WHEW! Talk about plenty of 'AHA!' and 'ESO!' moments! Gracias Percy @percy_chinchilla por tu arte, enseñansa, y por tu amor a nuestra cultura. Eres ❤🔥🙏🏽🇵🇪🙌🏽 ❤💯 Ok so Percy is incredibly dope, not only as an artist but as a person. Yo, I can really go AWWFFF. He is ride or die for AfroPeruvian culture, ancestry and representation to the fullest. All of this is felt through his artistry as a musician, percussionist, zapoateador and teacher. A former member of Peru Negro and now the director of Perkutao, he released the record 'Mis Ancestros'. Afro Peruvian and the people indigenous to Peru bring so much culture to Peru. Through chatting with Afro Indigenous Peruvian Vivian I learned about how she worked hard on finding her history and how it's helped her feel grounded. #AfroPeruvian #Peru #latinxheritagemonth
