Spent lots of time with the Reloop Mixtour Pro on this trip. It’s easy to use once you wrap your head around the control layout, and it’s lots of fun with djay Pro. Made mixtapes using the djay Music streaming library too. Personally, skip the Beat Sync and use the Pitch Bend buttons - lots more fun because this retains some manual beatmatching mechanics. Reminds me of how I started DJing with CDs pre-millennium (jogwheels didn’t have pitch bends back then). The layout also reminds me of what I feel was the heyday of Midi-mappable DJ controllers and apps in the late 00s and 10s. It’s still DJing, just packaged differently in a relatively tiny footprint. I’d like to see more unconventional controllers like this because we’ve reached peak “two jogwheels and a mixer” over the past five years and there’s room for more creative (if niche) executions. #djlife #reloopdj #djay #algoriddim thanks @danceplanet for the clutch Chroma Caps!

Switching from low BPMs to high ones can happen in an instant thanks to today’s DJ technology. The secret is understanding how tempos work across genres. Lower BPM styles like hip-hop can seamlessly transition to higher BPM genres like UKG and drum & bass by doubling (or halving) the BPM. Today’s DJ software and CDJs make this tempo switch possible. Want to add even more energy? Try gradually riding the tempo fader: bring that 68BPM hip-hop track up to 75BPM, then drop into a 150BPM dnb banger for maximum impact 🔥 Pro tip: Some DJs execute the tempo change WHILE transitioning - either using Sync or manually with jog wheels and pitch faders.
