On March 27, 1929, the “Provincial Museum Act” was passed, establishing what would become the New Brunswick Museum. But the story of our collections begins much earlier. In April 1842, Abraham Gesner opened his Museum of Natural History to the public in Saint John. Over the decades, its collections were expanded, relocated, and stewarded by organizations including the Natural History Society of New Brunswick, forming the foundation of the Provincial Museum in 1929. Today, those early specimens and stories remain part of the New Brunswick Museum’s collection, linking nearly two centuries of curiosity, discovery, and care. As we mark this milestone, we continue working to create a world-class museum experience – one that will secure our place among Canada’s leading cultural attractions and captivate visitors from across the province and beyond. #MakingHistoryNow

first fridays at @nhmla, highly recommend! you get to roam the museum after dark and there’s drinks and music. took me years to go to one but we finally did it! 📍@nhmla 🗓️1st Friday of every month 💸 We paid $30 per ticket 🎟️ and $24 for parking on the grounds 🚘 #naturalhistorymuseum #nhmla #museum #nightatthemuseum
