What I love here is the contrast. White walls, a blue door, rugged rock, deep water and all that morning light coming across the landscape. Location + details 👇 ✅SAVE for your Amorgos itinerary This is the Monastery of Hozoviotissa on Amorgos, a historic marvel built into the side of a cliff, 300 meters above the sea ✨ The climb up is worth it to witness deep blue sea views and the centuries of history behind its walls As a visitor, you will be greeted by the monks with local psimeni raki and loukoumi to help you recharge after the climb. 🥾ACCESS Reaching the monastery requires a moderate 300-step hike from the parking area. Remember to bring water due to the heat. 👗DRESS CODE A modest dress code is required to enter the monastery. Women must wear long skirts, and men must wear trousers. 📍Nikouria, Amorgos Quando raggiungo isolette come Nikouria, mi ritrovo spesso a farmi delle domande. Quante persone saranno passate da qui nel corso dei secoli? Quali animali vivono oggi su questo piccolo lembo di terra? E quanti milioni di anni di storia geologica si nascondono sotto i nostri piedi? Mi affascina anche trovare una piccola chiesetta, dedicata alla Panagia, in un luogo così isolato. E mi chiedo chi abbia deciso di costruirla proprio lì, e quante persone l’abbiano raggiunta nel tempo. Sono pensieri che mi vengono spontaneamente quando esploro questi angoli dell’Egeo. A Nikouria, poi, c’è una pace difficile da spiegare. Una di quelle sensazioni che mi fanno amare così tanto le Cicladi. ——— 📍Nikouria, Amorgos Whenever I reach small islands like Nikouria, I often find myself wondering about so many things. How many people have set foot here over the centuries? What animals live on this little piece of land today? And how many millions of years of geological history lie beneath our feet? I’m also fascinated by the sight of a small chapel dedicated to Panagia, the Virgin Mary, in such an isolated place. I wonder who decided to build it right there, and how many people have made their way to it over the years. These are the kinds of thoughts that naturally come to mind whenever I explore these corners of the Aegean. And then there’s the sense of peace you feel on Nikouria, something that’s hard to put into words. One of those feelings that reminds me why I love the Cyclades so much. #cycladeseveryday #cyclades #greece #grecia #cicladi
