KNIGHT OF LEYNDELL We’re working on some new sets — three, to be exact: the Seraphim Set, the Arco Armour, and the Knight of the Lands Between. Here you can see the process for the Lands Between set. We came to Les Invalides for Napoleon, but the medieval armour collection quickly became one of the highlights of our visit. The Musée de l’Armée houses one of Europe’s finest collections of historic arms and armour. The gallery brings together original pieces from the 13th to the 17th century, including knightly armour, beautifully decorated helmets, shields, tournament equipment and ceremonial armour. What we loved most was seeing how different every piece is. Some were built purely for war, others for tournaments or ceremonies, but all of them show an incredible level of craftsmanship. Looking closely at the engravings, polished steel and elegant shapes, it’s easy to forget that these were once made to protect lives on the battlefield. We probably could have stayed another hour… but the museum staff had other plans. 😄😂 #medievalhistory #historymuseum #knight #armour

Here’s a reproduction of a composite italian armour from the 1480’s. What you see is the result of almost 5 years of work, spent researching, designing and making. The main source is the wooden statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni placed in his funeral chapel in Bergamo. All the missing parts were reproduced after different sources, like the effigy of Pino III Ordelaffi for the cuirasse, B4 armour’s gauntlets and the Devil’s Mask armet from Udine. The armour has proved amazing funcionality in action both on horse and on foot. A magnificent result achieved thanks to the help and work of master armourer Jiří Klepač who gave huge support with the design process and forged the harness. The iconic “bellows” visor close helmet is now available to 3D print at home 🙂 This Maximilian-style helmet features a crest, an elaborately fluted bowl shape, and an intimidating angular visor. I think I’ve nailed the aesthetic, thanks in good part to photographs from museums used to re-create every single feature of the original, along with its proportions and shapes. I'm very proud of the paint job, and the fact I was able to publish this kit despite the (positive) chaos of my personal life!
