Sometimes I DO feel lost.
Not because I donāt know where Iām going, but because Iām not longer who I used to be.
And not because I want my old life back. But because becoming someone new is a strange place to live.
The beautiful part is this, I love the woman Iām becoming.
For a long time, so much of my energy went toward keeping the peace, tiptoeing around the creaky floorboards, searching for solutions, attempting to protect my kids, and trying to hold everything together. I didnāt realize how heavy and emotionally exhausting all of that was until I could finally set it down. And now? Whew. Now it feels like taking one enormous, glorious inhale after holding my breath for far too long.
Now Iām remembering what delight feels like. Iām remembering how to dream. Iām remembering how to be me. Iām getting to see who Erin is when she isnāt just trying to survive.
But transformation isnāt all sunshine and rainbow sprinkles.
There are still hurts Iām untangling. Sometimes my mind goes back and tries to work things out, searching for answers, trying to understand the hows and whys of it all. But maybe I donāt actually need to understand. Maybe itās for the best that I cannot fathom some peopleās choices.
Itās better for me to spend my time focused elsewhere anyways.
So, hereās my plan.
Iāll keep choosing joy.
Iāll paint another flower. Or some lemons. Or someoneās gorgeous face.
Iāll laugh with my kids.
Iāll plan another adventure for us.
Iāll read and sketch and paint my nails.
Iāll try a new recipe.
Iāll art journal more. .
Iāll work at being braver when I longboard.
Iāll keep adding beauty to ordinary days.
Iāll keep becoming.
Maybe thatās all transformation really is. Not waking up one morning as someone new, but quietly choosing, over and over, to become more yourself.
If youāre somewhere in the middle too, be gentle with yourself.
The middle can be uncomfortable.
But maybe itās also where the magic grows.

I'm using my translucent papers that I sell in my Etsy shop and then some handwriting with a Posca paint pen to complete this spread in my art journal.Ā

Lately, Iāve been having so much fun combining magazine papers with my own gel plate-printed papers.
I love the contrast between the recognizable magazine imagery and all the color, marks, and texture from my gel prints. Somehow, putting the two together creates these really unexpected layers.
Iāve been using these combinations a lot in my board books, which are one of my favorite places to experiment with collage. The pages are sturdy, the size feels manageable, and thereās so much freedom to just try things without worrying about making a āperfectā piece.
If youāve been curious about working with board books for collage, I have a FREE class where I show you exactly how I use them for collage and mixed-media practice.
Just comment BOARD BOOK and Iāll send you all the info.

Is āart journalā a verb? š
Whether it is or not, I believe art journaling is a valuable process. You can do it for five minutes or five hours, and the finished page doesnāt have to look a certain way.
The finished page isnāt really the point.
Creating gives you a chance to use your hands, choose colors, scribble, layer, experiment, and make something without needing it to be good, pretty, meaningful, or worth sharing.
Sometimes youāll like what you make. Sometimes you wonāt. Sometimes you might cover the whole thing up.
It still counts.
So yes, I art journal. And Iām officially declaring it a verb. š

You may have noticed on a recent reel that I said we don't have hobbies.
This isn't because we don't believe one should have them or because we don't like them. For Andrew, it's because he works so much - and then comes home and works some more, maintaining the homestead and home. For me, I also stay really busy with work, maintaining our home with cooking, preserving, cleaning, and of course raising our child. I also struggle to keep hobbies with my ADHD - I quickly lose interest in hobbies OR they get turned into a business. I've done this with crafting, embroidery, thrifting, writing, letter-writing, and baking, to name a few.
But there is something so healing about doing something for the joy of it, and doing it slowly.
I've thought before that I'd like to start art/junk journaling. My best friend is an artist and gave me am art journal she made for me one year for my birthday. It was one of the most meaningful gifts I've ever had! But doing one for myself...I've never had much motivation.
However, with Jane entering my life, and wanting to slow down and have a more analog, '90s childhood for her, I also realized I wanted to have more photos printed. Therefore I decided to start a scrapbook for her.
I think this will be a really special gift for her someday, and it's a good practice for me to work on something slowly, a bit here and there, consistently. Man, that is hard. But I can feel it benefiting my nervous system as I do it.
Do you have any analog hobbies?
