💫A very special thanks to @harlequinbooks + @netgalley for the gifted ALC. The Bride’s Betrayal by Debra Webb pub June 30.
🎧Review
Rory Harris was just released from prison after 2 years for murdering her husband on a technicality. Everyone in this small town hates her. There are people who are trying to run her out of town. But thankfully, she has someone on her side. Chance is willing to protect Rory at all costs, but he’s also there to help aid her in the mystery of what truly happened on Rory’s wedding night. What happened that night when two masked men entered their rental and did the unthinkable to Rory and her husband. I stayed on the edge of my seat while listening. I really enjoyed the investigation side of things, and trying to figure out who was behind it all. Completely twisted! I haven’t read the previous books in this series, and I didn’t feel lost. I was able to jump in mid series and enjoy this book. It can be read as a stand alone.
The narrator, Megan Tusing did an amazing job portraying Rory. The array of emotions that she was able to showcase in the audiobook were amazing. I was riveted. Tusing kept me engaged till the very end.
This is perfect for readers who enjoy sleuthing, small town, and a suspenseful listen.
💭Are you married? Where did you go on your honeymoon? or what’s your dream destination you hope to visit one day?

Still looking for a book to fill the The Silversmith shaped hole in your heart? 👀✨
If you love fantasy with memory loss, forbidden magic, kingdom politics, hidden secrets, witch hunters, and an MMC who has been yearning for the FMC for TEN YEARS, then The Iron Hex deserves a spot on your TBR.
I was immediately pulled in by the mystery surrounding the FMC’s forgotten past and stayed for the political intrigue, unique magic system, and all the secrets waiting to be uncovered. The audiobook narration made it easy to get lost in the world, and now I’m curious to see where book two takes these characters.
📚 Read if you love:
✨ Memory Loss
🖤 Forbidden Magic
👑 Political Fantasy
❤️ Decade-Long Yearning
⚔️ Slow-Build Romance

Sheila Roberts’ (@sheilarobertswriter )The Cottage on Juniper Ridge was in my ears during my commute this week, and listening to women trying to simplify their lives while I was driving to work felt a little too relatable. Thank you to MIRA for the audiobook, with Tanya Eby bringing Icicle Falls to life. Have you ever read a book that made you look at your own life and think…maybe I really don’t need all this stuff?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jen Heath is exhausted. She’s working constantly to afford the Seattle life she thought she wanted, but she isn’t actually enjoying any of it. After reading a book called Simplicity, Jen does what most of us only threaten to do—she changes everything. She leaves Seattle, moves to Icicle Falls, rents a little cottage, joins a book club, and tries to figure out what she really wants.
Of course, “simple” gets complicated when her landlord Garrett enters the picture. He’s a firefighter, a single dad, and convinced Jen is far too impulsive for him. Jen is trying very hard not to care what he thinks. You can imagine how well that goes.
But this isn’t only Jen and Garrett’s story, and that’s what I enjoyed most. Toni is trying to reconnect with a family permanently attached to screens, Stacy is realizing just how much stuff she’s accumulated, and the women in the book club are each asking what they could let go of.
There’s something comforting about these women sitting together talking about books, relationships, clutter, family, and everything we convince ourselves we have to do. Icicle Falls has that cozy small-town feeling where everybody knows everybody, chocolate is probably nearby, and your friends will tell you the truth whether you asked or not.
Tanya Eby was such a good fit for this story. She kept the women distinct while giving the audiobook the warm, familiar feeling it needed.
And yes, it had me wondering what I could simplify in my own life…although books are obviously exempt from decluttering.
What’s one thing in your life you’d happily simplify?

Rapid audiobook reviews because apparently my listening queue is moving much faster than my reading stack:
Heartburn — Nora Ephron
Adored this short listen, narrated by THE Meryl Streep. Sharp, funny, messy, and wildly charming.
Revenge, but make it adorable.
Crying in H Mart — Michelle Zauner
A compelling, intimate listen, and I completely understand why this memoir has hit so many readers so deeply. But for me? I’m not sure I found the profound, soul-rattling experience that so many people seem to have with it. I’m glad I listened, but I’m still sitting with where I landed on this one.
Spoiler alert: a full post is coming on Dogs, Boys and Other Things I’ve Cried About because I have THOUGHTS. And feelings. Obviously.
Tell me: what’s the best audiobook you’ve listened to recently? I need to know what should be in my headphones next.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown
⭐ 6/5
A brutal, fast, and addictive sci-fi story set on Mars. Society is divided by color — Reds at the bottom, Golds at the top. One Red decides he’s done accepting his place and starts climbing. Expect blood, politics, loyalty, and some of the best twists I’ve read in a long time.
I listened to the GraphicAudio Dramatized Adaptation on Audible and couldn’t stop. For a long time I haven’t enjoyed a book this much. The plot twists hit hard and the characters stay with you.
A few lines that made my heart skip:
“I would have lived in peace. But my enemies brought me war.”
“I live for the dream that my children will be born free. That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them.”
“Then you must live for more.”
“You do not follow me because I am the strongest. Pax is. You do not follow me because I am the brightest. Mustang is. You follow me because you do not know where you are going. I do.”
This book is incredible. If you haven’t tried the dramatized version yet, go for it.

✨ Whistler ✨
While it’s no surprise that Ann Patchett knows how to write a book, it was a surprise that this book is not at all about horses. 😅 Well almost not at all. I spent the first few chapters wondering why I was reading this book, but the story wormed its way into my heart and stuck to my ribs like a good home cooked dinner. Read this if you’ve ever wished you could reconnect with someone who changed your life for the better as a child. Absolutely gorgeous.
The audio was good. Although I generally don’t buy in to an author reading their own work (and it wasn’t Tom Hanks or Meryl Streep), it was easy to listen to and I did not hate it.
Easy recommendation here. Read it so we can talk about it!
Thank you @librofm for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.
Background song as a tribute to the person this book made me think of. 💚 is there someone who changed your world as a kid?
My teeny baby who’s now a whole toddler hanging out in the background. 🥹
