Can I be honest today?

I used to think that meant
until they grew up.
Until they moved out.
Until they could drive.
Until they could make their own decisions.
But I have four children.
And two of them may depend on me for the rest of their lives.
So my prayer is different now.
God, please don’t let me get sick too soon.
Please give me a strong body.
Please give me the energy to keep advocating.
Please give me the patience to keep teaching.
Please give me the courage to keep fighting.
Please let me live long enough to make sure they will be okay without me.
Because I don’t need to be needed forever.
I just need to know that when my time comes,
they will be loved,
they will be safe,
and they will never wonder if their mama fought like hell to make sure they were okay.
Until then, God…
please let my body last.

Some days the world sees autism. We see Sam.
One of the things that makes Sam unique is that he often speaks in reverse. It’s hard to explain until you actually hear it. Over the years, we’ve learned that communication doesn’t always look the way people expect—and that’s okay.

Sometimes the sweetest moments are the ones you never planned for. 💜
Bella was having the time of her life at Five Below, laughing, skipping, and exploring the store in her own little world.
Then this sweet little girl noticed her.
She kept waving, saying hi, and coming back to try to make a connection. She didn’t give up just because Bella didn’t respond right away.
Eventually, they found their own way to play together.
Moments like this remind me that connection doesn’t always have to look the same. Sometimes all it takes is a little patience and a kind heart.
