Hip Osteonecrosis, also known as avascular necrosis of the hip, represents a condition caused by reduced blood flow to the femoral head secondary to a variety of risk factors such as a traumatic event, sickle cell disease, steroid use, alcoholism, autoimmune disorders, and hypercoagulable states.
Diagnosis can be made with plain radiographs in moderate/late disease but MRI may be required to detect early or subclinical osteonecrosis.
Treatment is generally observation with management of the underlying systemic condition. Operative management is indicated for advanced disease with presence of subchondral collapse, femoral head flattening and/or degenerative joint disease.

I have avascular necrosis (AVN) / osteoporosis of the humeral head in both my shoulders. This means that bone tissue in the upper arm bone (humerus) in my shoulders have died due to lack of blood supply.
The humeral head is the second most common location for AVN with the most common being in the femoral head of the hip.
In my case, AVN was caused by long-term use of steroids to treat acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).
While there are more advancements than before, AVN of the humeral head is considered an under-researched topic, especially with how relatively rare it is.
And considering it is something I’ve truly started dealing with these past few months, I think it’s important to talk about.
I’ve recently been in reading about the intersection of fashion in relation to AVN and accessibility in general, so I plan to incorporate more about that on my page when doing GDWM videos and whatever fun fashion project I have going on

Tell me your story! Have you ever been misdiagnosed or struggled to find a solution with health & had to dig deep to figure it out?
I break mine down in detail in my podcast episode 131. Also in Episode 132 Karalynn from @just.ingredients shares her story of depression & her self advocacy to heal herself with the right professional. Both episodes are great reminders to advocate for your health!
Trust your instincts in your journey! People thought I was nuts when I decided to get a 2nd MRI. I was already given a diagnosis based on an MRI & 4 surgeons. I was also in the final stages before needing a hip replacement. One surgeon even told me to schedule now as he booked out 3 months & the hip joint could easily collapse soon 🤯. To say I was discouraged is an understatement!
Everything I heard and read said AVN (avascular necrosis) didn’t get better & normally hip replacement was needed within 12-18 months. I had already had pain for almost a year! Nothing could improve AVN besides a core compression surgery which I was past that point of it being effective based on my stage.
I told myself to strengthen everything around my hip & do any type of holistic action I can. I will know I gave my all before surgery even if they say it won’t help.
Shockingly the severe pain started fading/disappearing & my mobility improved. My gut told me get a 2nd MRI. Result- no AVN and on research I stumbled upon transient osteoporosis hip (TOH) which is OFTEN misdiagnosed as AVN but it gets better with PT!
Imagine if I didn’t trust my intuition or listened to the 1st surgeon & scheduled my hip replacement🤯. I don’t need one now the new MRI & recent surgeon confirmed it!
So to you, if you’re struggling with an injury, gut health, stomach issues, hormones, autoimmune etc. DO NOT GIVE UP! Do all you can on your end to heal, learn & thrive in the midst of a health trial.
Listen to your body, listen to your your intuition & do this for your kids too!
Please share your health story!

July 11
Today marks exactly 1 year since my hip replacement surgery. A pivotal moment for me after living my entire life with debilitating Leg pain (Avascular Necrosis) from a wrongly administered injection when I was a 9 months old.
This experience completely changed my life and taught me to never take the little things for granted.
The recovery months sent me into deep depression as I had to learn how to walk again as a child, and rely on other people to do even the simplest tasks. It truly felt like the world had moved on and I was just static. But God’s promise and the hard lessons he was teaching me in that season was that I be STILL and let the world move on, because someday I would move again and the world will STANDSTILL for me.
The world has indeed stood still for me especially in the last couple of months, as I started playing chess again, Broke a world record, Started playing the piano again,Travelled the world, Spoke on Global stages and Helped more children find their place in the world again. Maybe danced a little more as well😊.
I finally found the courage to chase all the things that set my soul on fire.
The surgeons say the titanium implants have a lifespan of 15-20 years if you’re lucky, so I guess this is year one of being a cyborg. I’m still recovering and not sure what the future holds, but one thing I know that’s certain is God will hold my hands through all of it.
This frail body and these broken bones will house the greatest spirit humanity will ever know.
I’m living❤️
For everyone going through their own version of being static or nursing a pain no one else understands, I hope you don’t give up on yourself. Those battle scars will tell a beautiful story that healing is possible.
Someday you will move again and the world will STANDSTILL.

👉 AVN (Avascular Necrosis) Grade 3
अगर सही समय पर सही Diagnosis न हो तो Hip Replacement तक की नौबत आ सकती है।
⚠️ सीख क्या है?
Report से ज़्यादा जरूरी है Clinical Understanding।

Stop blaming arthritis because someone said your X-ray is “fine.” A joint can be breaking down while the X-ray still looks normal. This is one way joints fail early.
AVN (avascular necrosis) means part of a bone is dying because its blood supply is reduced. Bone is living tissue. When blood flow drops, the weak spot is often the subchondral bone (the bone right under the cartilage). Think of cartilage like flooring. If the subfloor cracks, the floor fails next.
The root cause is usually a combo of 3 things:
1. Blockage: tiny vessels get clogged (fat droplets, microclots, sickled cells).
2. Pressure: the marrow space swells or fills with fat, pressure rises, and it squeezes those tiny vessels shut (like stepping on a sponge).
3. Repair mismatch: dead bone can’t remodel fast enough to handle load.
Result: micro cracks, then a bigger crack under the surface (the “crescent sign”), then collapse, then fast arthritis.
Where it hides: hip is #1 (femoral head), then shoulder, knee, ankle. Non-traumatic AVN is often bilateral, so one painful hip can mean a quieter lesion on the other side.
Rare but high-yield: the scaphoid in the wrist. Most of its blood enters from the far end, so the proximal pole is last in line. A fracture can isolate that piece and AVN can follow.
Who’s at risk: trauma (fracture/dislocation), long-term or high-dose steroids (prednisone), heavy alcohol use (it can increase marrow fat, raise pressure, and weaken bone repair), sickle cell disease, lupus, clotting disorders, smoking/high lipids, decompression sickness, some cancer treatments.
Symptoms that fool people: early can be silent. When it speaks, it’s deep joint pain with load (stairs, standing, pivoting). Hip AVN is often groin pain and can refer to the thigh or even feel like knee pain. Later: night pain, stiffness, limp.
In complex cases, I don’t let a normal X-ray end the conversation.
Key truth: early X-rays can be normal. MRI is the stage-defining test. Rule: stage first, then load.
Want the full systems map, staging decision tree, and the body-wide AVN map? I broke it down in Movability Masterclass on Substack (link in bio).

My first try to stand, 2 days after my hip joint replacement sugery. Sobrang sakit—9/10.
I still belive that God is good all the time, God is faithful to his promises, and He will never fail. All praise and glory to God! Thank You, Lord Jesus 🙏🏻

Mr Gokul Patil from Naroda, Ahmedabad, was suffering from AVN (Avascular Necrosis) of the hip along with severe pain and difficulty walking for nearly 3 years. Multiple doctors advised him that hip surgery was the only option, as both hip joints were gradually deteriorating.
He had already spent nearly ₹4–5 lakh on different treatments, but his condition kept worsening. Walking became very difficult, and he had to use a stick for support.
Then he came to the Global Agnikarma Centre, Ahmedabad.
After undergoing 7–8 sessions of Agnikarma treatment (Thermal Microcautery Therapy) in 2022, his condition started improving significantly.
The most remarkable part of his recovery is that after completing the treatment in 2022, he has not required any further treatment for the last 3 years.
Even today, after 3 years, he is 100% better, able to walk, sit, stand, and even run comfortably without pain, and without undergoing surgery.
In this video, he shares his real recovery journey and expresses gratitude to Dr Hardik and the team at Global Agnikarma Centre.
