I shared a lot of information about getting a balanced back, and that’s true, your routine has to take into account all back muscles.
But sometimes you come to me with a routine that IS balanced, and you tell me you’ve put on a lot of volume on your back, and then when I look closer, I realize that actually you just did a bulk at a pretty high body fat percentage.
For example, in my first video I was at a really high body fat percentage so obviously if you add muscle mass on top of that, you’re going to feel like it’s because of the gym, when in reality, it’s not at all.
When you do your first cut, you realize just how small the muscles actually are, and you think to yourself, “why didn’t I go all in on lifting earlier? Why did I have this limiting belief that muscle was going to make me look bulky?” When in fact, it’s all a question of body fat percentage. Most of the time your diet and/or activity level.
I’m obviously not asking you to be at a very low body fat percentage like I am in the second video, that was during my cut. But what I want to explain through this video is that muscle is actually really small. Look at how tiny I am in the second video.
And if you don’t like your upper body even though you have a balanced routine, it’s either because you haven’t developed your lower body enough, so your upper body looks wider than your lower body or because your body fat percentage is genuinely too high, and when the two combine, it creates a look you might not like.
So the moral of the story is: manage your body fat properly, and manage your proportions properly too.
Building muscle is THE best option ever. I stand by this. No matter your current situation, building muscle IS gonna solve it.

Key Points for the Lat Pulldown
1. Stabilize Your Body
When seated, ensure that the thigh pad is snug against the top of your thighs. This helps stabilize your body and prevents unnecessary movement, allowing your back muscles to engage more effectively.
2. Slightly Lean Back
Maintain a slight backward lean (about 10-15 degrees) to minimize forearm involvement and maximize back muscle activation. However, avoid leaning too far back, as this turns the exercise into a rowing motion and reduces lat engagement.
3. Keep Your Spine Neutral, Avoid Rounding Your Back Keep your chest up, engage your core, and maintain a neutral spine. Avoid rounding your back or shrugging your shoulders, as this can reduce lat engagement and lead to compensations that may strain your shoulders.
4. Elbow Positioning
Slightly tuck your elbows inward as you pull down (without overdoing it). This enhances lat activation and reduces unnecessary stress on the shoulders. Avoid flaring your elbows too much, as this can shift the load toward the rear delts and traps instead of the lats.
5. Avoid Shrugging Your Shoulders
During the eccentric (returning) phase, do not shrug your shoulders, as this will transfer the tension from your lats to your traps and anterior delts. Instead, keep your shoulder blades stable to ensure continuous back muscle engagement.
6. Keep Your Forearms Aligned with the Cable Throughout the movement, your forearms should remain in line with the cable. This ensures that force is effectively transmitted to your back muscles. If your forearms create an angle with the cable, your biceps and shoulders may take over, reducing lat activation.

Carve-your-Body: Machine Reverse Flyes ⚠️
Step 1: Position your Chest on the Pad, and instead of Grabbing the Handle with a Neutral Grip, grab the handles with a Pronated Grip so you can pull more weight.
Step 2: Actively Protract your Shoulders Blades Forward to start at a Full Stretch.
Step 3: Actively Pull your Shoulders Forward to Maximize the Stretch in the Starting Position. (similar to Step 2 but a different angle).
Step 4: Slightly Flare your Elbows Out so you can Pull at a T-Motion.
Using all 4 Steps with Maximize your Rear Delts 🔥
