A few weeks ago I stopped for a stranger on a bike.🚲 His name is John. He lives in a township in Cape Town, rides his bike to work every single day, and carries a dream in his heart that most people in his position would have given up on a long time ago. He wants to become a professional cyclist.🥇 He had no phone. No social media. No way for me to reach him after we spoke. So I put a video out and asked you guys to help me find him A We found John! Big thanks to the team at @theactivehobo Now we want to go one step further. We have started a BackaBuddy campaign to get John everything he needs to begin this journey properly. A racing bike, helmet, shoes, kit, nutrition, race entries, a phone and a full year of bike maintenance. If anyone has any lead for any jobs in a bike shop that he could work at. This is not about handouts. This is about giving a hardworking, passionate human being the tools to chase something real. John has the heart. He has the hunger. Dear friends, I just did my surgery! We did it!!! 😭 I am in alot of pain but just want to say thank you to everyone who sent contributions, messages and prayers. The campaign was launched on Thursday and was an urgent appeal for help. The surgery needed to be done immediately due to the broken bones. The way the community came together to help me in such a short time is beyond incredible. Something that reflects the goodness of humans in these dark times. World Food Day is the 16th of October, and we’re reminded that food is more than nourishment. It’s dignity. It’s hope. It’s the foundation for a child’s future.🍽️❤️ Every school day, the Carmen Stevens Foundation provides meals to over 25,000 learners across South Africa. For many of these children, this is the only meal they receive all day. But when schools close for the December holidays — 34 long days - thousands of children face the harsh reality of going hungry. We cannot sit back and allow this to happen. That’s why the Carmen Stevens Foundation has launched the “Support Food Hampers for Children During the December/January School Holidays” campaign through BackaBuddy. 🍽️ DONATE HERE: https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/the-longest-hunger-starts-in-january Each food hamper contains 32 items, enough to feed a family of 4 to 5 for about two weeks.
