When it comes to grand holiday productions, @balletmet’s “The Nutcracker” is in a category all its own. The classic ballet — which opened Thursday and continues through Dec. 24 in the Ohio Theatre — has long entranced audiences. BalletMet’s production does not want for spectacle: The show boasts hundreds of dancers, elaborate sets, glorious costumes and much theatrical wizardry. Ahead of the opening, The Dispatch asked BalletMet Artistic Director Edwaard Liang to walk us through “The Nutcracker” by the numbers. A quiet moment inside rehearsal for Peter Pan—and a reminder of why I love ballet so deeply. Watching a story come to life through movement, music, and discipline never stops inspiring me, especially when it’s created with the level of artistry and care I continue to see at @balletmet . BalletMet’s Peter Pan will premiere at the Ohio Theatre from February 13–15, with five performances scheduled. It is a beautiful production for audiences of all ages and also a wonderful option for a Valentine’s Day outing. I’m grateful to witness the work behind the scenes and to support the artists who make these moments on stage possible.

flashback to studio life. my dear friend Caitlin will be retiring after a 22 year career at the end of her season in april with balletmet 🫶🏼 she has danced for three companies throughout her career and she was my partner for my retirement performance two years ago..the memories i have shared on and off stage with this true gem i will forever cherish 🥹 so proud of this superstar and cannot wait to cheer you on ♥️
