Bay Islands, Honduras 🇭🇳🐬💎💙 We absolutely adored Roatan and Utila, they each have different personalities, so it’s worth spending time on both islands! We loved each of them for different reasons. Roatan for unbeatable beaches and better diving (imo). Utila for scuba school life (do your cert here) and barefoot vibes. The Utilian accent comes from the unique history of the Bay Islands. Originally inhabited by indigenous groups, the islands were later settled by British colonists and Afro-Caribbean communities. The Bay Islands were once a British colony before being ceded to Honduras in 1861 (which is why English remained dominant and shaped our dialect) That mix of British, Caribbean, Garífuna, and Honduran influences created the culture we have today. #honduras #utila #bayislands #caribbeanhistory #accent

Should you avoid Roatan during rainy season? After 20+ years living on this island, I can tell you most people have it completely wrong. 🌴 Here’s the truth about Roatan’s rainy season (October - February): Rainy season doesn’t mean weeks of gray skies and canceled plans. It means short tropical bursts mixed with sunshine, cooler temps (not cold), and some of the most peaceful months of the year. What actually happens: * Morning showers, afternoon beach days * Lush green jungle, stunning sunsets * Quieter beaches, lower accommodation prices * Normal flights, ferries, and diving operations * Only occasional storms, since hurricanes go north The biggest misconception: People think rainy season = hurricane season. It doesn’t on Roatan, since Roatan sits south of the main hurricane belt. Most systems pass 200+ miles north of us. Rainy season is actually one of the BEST times to visit or buy property in Roatan. Lower prices. Fewer crowds. And you can properly evaluate drainage, road conditions, and how a property actually performs in real weather. I always saw this place from West Bay and never knew what it was. Turns out it’s a top 15 spa in the world, hidden on my island, built to honor a people we’re forgetting. I grew up in these islands and the Pesh got one mention in my whole school life. This place made me look closer. Siempre veía este lugar desde West Bay y nunca supe qué era. Over the centuries, local legends have claimed that treasure from those raids may still be hidden somewhere on Utila. No one has ever found it, but the mystery is part of what makes this little Caribbean island so fascinating. ☠️💰 While I didn’t uncover pirate gold, I did find a hidden gem: @manuriigarden 🌿 Tucked away in lush tropical gardens, it’s peaceful, beautifully designed, and within walking distance of Utila’s dive shops, restaurants, and waterfront. ✈️ How to get there: • Fly into Roatán (RTB). • Take the ferry from Roatán to Utila. • Check into MANURII Garden Hotel and start exploring one of the Caribbean’s most unique islands.
