Spent the most incredible weekend at @sofitelnyc - or, as I like to call it, my new Parisian Home away from home. Started off the evening with a sublime private performance from @philharmoniedeparis, followed by a très Français dinner at their restaurant, Mademoiselle Gaby. Whether you’re making a springtime visit to NYC or are looking for a staycation, I cannot think of a better hotel and overall experience. “Mr. Brightside” from @thekillers was such a perfect example of jumping into something, just because it got my creative juices flowing and it seemed exciting. The band was completely unknown at the time and I think I only got paid $500 for a two day shoot. It became such a “cult classic”, you really never know what will happen. As artists we get so precious sometimes with what we get involved with, but you need to exercise your creativity or it won’t “produce” when you actually need it the most. If you’re a musician, compose and perform every day, if you’re a writer, write every day DO NOT WAIT TO BE INSPIRED. If you need to “grease” your wheels do something out of ordinary, like a day trip to a cool town, or a bus ride in a neighborhood that you’ve never been to. I recently got so inspired by a story a cashier at Home Depot told me! If someone invites you to join their project, put your ego (or sometimes your laziness) aside and see if it excites you and then do it, if it does! When you truly understand and commit to this process, your artistry will thrive! And no, I don’t have a course to sell you on this subject. Haha! Everytime I’ve tried to be anyone but myself the fruits always fell flat because I forgot the soil was me. I forgot God poured the magic in my cup too because I was too busy looking at someone else’s. trying to duplicate the magic of someone else never works our because it’s not your magic to duplicate. And on top of that- there are versions of you that still need to make their debut and you won’t see them come into fruition trying to be versions of someone. I saw this quote from @iambrillyant recently and what a banger : “The beautiful thing about being your own muse is that you never have to be at the mercy of anyone’s gaze to feel validated, you never have to rely on external energy to feel like you are worthy of celebration, you continue being art regardless of whether they see you or not.” Continue being the art. Your art, not the viral or the trending- you baby. All you.
