While it’s not required for every binder, a curved needle is very useful for sewing under the thread bridges between signatures and makes the process much easier fpr me. I mean, look at that 👀 Also, I’ve only poked my fingers maybe 2–3 times in all my years of bookbinding with curved needles 😅 #bookbinding

Want a sketchbook that's truly one of a kind? ✨📖 Watch artist Brinn of The Ernie Studio create her own by hand, carefully assembling the pages and stitching the binding together using materials from Blick. For this book she used a binding technique called Secret Belgian binding which is different from Coptic stitch. With Secret Belgian binding the book cover is bound separately from the signatures with a weaving pattern. The signatures are then sewn into the spine of the finished cover. It’s fall, and the colors on my work table are changing! I find it interesting how easy it looks in the video to decorate a cover like this with a picture. But there’s actually quite a bit of work involved. The most important thing is that the materials go well together—which isn’t as easy as it sounds. Then you need the exact dimensions of the cover and have to create the file accordingly, plot it, and have it cut. Then you weed it and, when transferring the design, hope that everything works out. Otherwise, you have to make a new cover. That’s why I only make covers like this very rarely. But it sure is pretty, isn’t it? 😅 Es ist Herbst und die Farben auf meinem Arbeitstisch ändern sich! Ich finde es interessant, wie einfach es im Video aussieht, solch ein Cover mit einem Bild zu verzieren. Dahinter steckt jedoch einiges an Arbeit. Das wichtigste ist, dass die Materialien zusammen passen - das ist gar nicht so leicht. Dann braucht man die genauen Maße des Covers und muss dann die Datei passend erstellen, plotten und schneiden lassen. Dann entgittern und dann beim Übertrag hoffen, dass alles klappt. Ansonsten muss man ein neues Cover herstellen. Deswegen mache ich solche Cover nur sehr selten. Aber hübsch ist es ja schon oder? 😅 #bookbinding #education #cricutmade #plotter #reliure
