A marathon not a sprint.
Super frustrating to hear but there is something cool about that. That means you can find great tools even down the road in your journey. Check out this musical glove by @flint.rehab that Holden has compared to guitar hero! This is encouraging new movement on his side with dynamic spasticity. Building new neuro pathways as it reminds his brain that it works.

On our way to church, I caught my wife softly singing along to a song she used to lead years ago…
Back then, it was just another song to us.
You standing on stage, singing… me right there behind you playing guitar—never thinking twice about moments like that. They were just part of our everyday life.
Then everything changed.
After the accident, there were days we didn’t know what would come back… what would sound the same… or if moments like this would ever happen again.
And now here you are—quietly singing along.
It may not sound like it used to… but to me, it means everything.
Because it’s not about how strong or perfect it is—it’s about the fact that it’s there at all. It’s progress. It’s healing. It’s grace.
This isn’t just music. It’s a reminder of how far you’ve come… and how faithful God has been through it all.
I don’t take a single note for granted anymore. 🤍

After two and a half years, Lily finally returned to her house and old bedroom. With our help, she quickly made her way up the stairs.
Sitting with Lily in her room again was so lovely, we sat and sorted out her belongings.

August Borden’s parents and community members said they were told conflicting stories about how he became seriously injured on campus at Deshler High School. His dad, Jason Borden, said some officials indicated August fell, while others told him a fight led to his injuries.
At first, Jason was unsure that Tuscumbia Police Officers were investigating the incident. When he went to the police station the following Friday after his son’s injuries, the police officers did not know a fight involving his son had allegedly happened. A few days later, the Tuscumbia Mayor issued a statement saying the matter was being investigated.
The Tuscumbia Police Department announced on Facebook the case involving 15-year-old August Borden is being transferred to the Franklin County Juvenile Probation Office with assistance from the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.

This might not look like much… but it was everything to us.
200 days.
200 days of silence, uncertainty, prayers, frustration, hope, and holding on to every small sign of progress. 200 days of wondering what the future would sound like… if it would sound like anything at all.
And then—this moment.
Her voice.
Not perfect to some. Not long. Not loud. But it was hers. And it was more beautiful than anything I’ve ever heard.
People see milestones differently now. Some chase big wins, big moments, big announcements. But when life changes in an instant, you learn that the smallest things become the biggest victories.
A word.
A sound.
A step forward.
This was more than just her speaking… this was strength. This was resilience. This was proof that she’s still fighting, still here, still becoming.
I’m so proud of you. Every single day you show me what real courage looks like.
And if this is what 200 days looks like… I can’t wait to hear what the next 200 will sound like. 🤍

A concussion impacts your entire life, and you have to slowly build a new one, a life that fits the new you.
But in the beginning, I didn’t even know who this “new me” was. I could barely leave the house. So how was I supposed to build a new life?
It took a very long time. At first, I focused entirely on myself and my health. I tried to stay in touch with old friends, but that took a lot of energy, and I realized I needed to let go of certain people.
So I did. I would rather be alone than surrounded by people who don’t truly care and only drain my energy.
That’s how my recovery journey continued, mostly alone, focusing on things that actually served me. I didn’t have to keep up with things I no longer enjoyed.
Slowly, over time, new people came into my life. People who genuinely cared. I discovered new hobbies and felt gratitude for the small things in life.
For anyone in the middle of this process: trust the journey. Listen to your intuition. What gives you energy? Are these things still serving you?
Remember: when one door closes, another one always opens. Maybe not immediately, but trust me, it will 💛
