✨Bucket List Worthy✨ NC Waterfalls to Explore 📍Gorges State Park edition 📌 SAVE to help you plan! Located in Transylvania county in Sapphire, NC, Gorges State Park is free to visit and well worth checking out while you’re in the area! 1️⃣ Rainbow Falls- This 150 foot waterfall is the most popular to visit in the park for good reason! It’s absolutely stunning and can be reached by a 3 mile RT moderate hike. 2️⃣ Turtleback Falls- Continue another 0.5 miles past Rainbow Falls and you’ll reach these beautiful falls. The trail takes you right over the top of them. 3️⃣ Bearwallow Falls- only 0.4 miles RT, this short trail takes you to a beautiful overall of this waterfall. This is a separate trailhead from Rainbow Falls and Turtleback Falls. 🐶 Dogs are allowed here but must be leashed. ‼️ Always remember to leave no trace and pack out any trash, dog waste, etc with you to keep beautiful trails like this beautiful! ‼️NC Bucket List Item! Details Below‼️ Fueled by 11,000 gallons of water flowing down the rock each minute, Sliding Rock is a 60-foot natural slide that plummets into chilly water (50-60 degrees!). The pool at the bottom of the falls is eight feet deep You can slide year-round during daylight hours (we had it all to ourselves when we visited the second week of May). Sliding Rock will reopen with lifeguards on Friday, May 23, 2025, and remain open through Labor Day, September 1, 2025. It sustained minimal damage from Hurricane Helene. Changing rooms/restrooms are open 7 days a week from 10 AM-6 PM from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. The cost to enter is $5 per person when staff members are on duty (cash or credit card). Children 3 and under are free. The cheese pull alone is worth the drive 😮‍💨😍 Day trip itinerary to Brevard, North Carolina! It’s just an hour and 30min from downtown Greenville, SC. - Looking Glass Falls - just park on the side of the road and the overlook is right there! There’s a nice swimming hole for the summertime ☀️ - Moore Cove Falls is just a 30minute hike (total)!! You can walk behind the waterfall and take cool pics. It was super easy!! Bring the whole fam (saw lots of dogs & kids!) Betty would have loved this hike 🐕‍🦺 - Quixote Fine Cuisine - the quest dip with chorizo blew my mind!! Also loved the enchilada suiza with the roja sauce 🌮 - Canto 34 Coffee Lounge was a really cool spot!!! The owner is also the artist and the Dante’s inferno theme was spot on. Hikers can walk behind Moore Cove Falls and, for the adventurous, to the top of the falls as well. The trailhead to this waterfall is located just north of Looking Glass Falls. While in the area, once you finish this easy hike, if you have a lot of time we highly recommend the Looking Glass hike…just epic views from the top. Or if you want to stay by the water, Sliding Rock is great or chill out at one of the easy access swimming holes on the Davidson like Coon Tree. A drive to the Parkway is easy from here too and areas like Graveyard Fields, Black Balsam Knob, and Devils Courthouse are within a half hours drive. #moorecovefalls #brevardnc #wnc #westernnc #blueridge #blueridgeparkway

Local legend says a pair of white squirrels escaped from a traveling show decades ago and were released in Brevard… and from that tiny beginning, the population grew. Today, these little celebrities make up about one-third of the squirrels in Brevard, which is wild considering how rare white squirrels are everywhere else. Brevard loves them so much that the entire city is an official squirrel sanctuary — meaning it’s actually illegal to harm or trap them. Street signs, local shops, murals, and even a yearly White Squirrel Festival celebrate their quirky fame.
