🐞 I knooooow I keep saying, buy used, borrow your gear, try swapping, but I really want to hammer it in that you really don’t need to buy the ‘newest’ technology for any of your outdoor pursuits. 🌲🏞️ ☀️🦋 TBH the outdoor industry is sort of hypocritical with this…many companies claim to want to save the planet and promote conservation but their own practices as a business say otherwise with individually wrapped items packaged in single use plastics and several collection drops per season. 🛍️ PLUS everyone on social media is always telling you to buy, buy, buy. So I want to remind you, think about what you need and what you can borrow or re-purpose. ⛰️👣Adventuring and the outdoors doesn’t have to be expensive and is truly rooted in the dirtbag culture. How to wash your down kit 🧼🫧 Washing your kit is super important for not only improving its performance but extending its lifespan. This is your sign to wash your down gear before you pack it away this spring. Down feathers have natural water resistant & insulating properties requiring specialist cleaning to avoid damaging their integrity. Household detergents will strip away the natural oils from the down feathers, reducing loft & thermal properties. STEP 1 Add one garment into the washing machine. Avoid overfilling your drum, technical garments need to move freely to make the most of both mechanical and chemical cleaning. STEP 2 Pour 75ml of Storm wash into the detergent compartment & if re-proofing add 75ml of Storm Down Proofer into the conditioning compartment. STEP 3 Set your machine to a 30 degree synthetic low spin cycle or a technical sport garment setting if available. STEP 4 Follow garment care instructions for drying. Hang to drip dry for at least 20 minutes before tumble drying. STEP 5 Heat by tumble drying a low heat setting according to the care label, removing the garment perodically to agitate the baffels to spread the down evenly.
