On 29 June 2026 the Large Hadron Collider is being switched off 💡 We caught up with Mark Thomson, the newly appointed director general of CERN, at this important juncture, as the LHC is due to shut down for two years for upgrades, paving the way for even more exciting physics. But is there anything left to discover? And are large particle accelerators the future of particle physics? Tap link in bio to watch the full interview #CERN, #Higgs, #LHC, #MarkThomson, #ParticlePhysics

#cern #antigascivilizacoes #misterio #extraterrestre #egitoantigo
There’s antimatter in this truck!! And if matter meets antimatter
it goes BOOM! We’ve figured out how to make and store antimatter, but they’re super delicate atoms, so to study them we need a super quiet environment that requires moving them! So scientists built a special trap in order to transport antimatter

When we were first told about the CERN Summer Student Programme at uni, I was in a room of 250 undergraduates. They told us it was extremely competitive, a few people in this room might get in, but that you could spend three months in Switzerland 🇹🇭 I looked around and thought to myself: "I'm ok at physics, but I'm not the BEST. Why would they pick someone like me? Plus I have to work in the summer to earn money for university, I can't afford to go to Switzerland" So I made a mistake. I didn't apply. I ruled myself out before anyone else could. Fortunately, I had more opportunities after that and I got to do my master's project at Fermilab in the US working on a particle physics experiment there. I was then able to apply to do a PhD at the same university, but this time on the ATLAS Experiment at CERN. And they haven't been able to get rid of me since then 😄. But the lesson I learned was: don't rule yourself out, try as hard as you can and you never know what could happen! CERN Summer Student applications are open until January 26th 2026 and it's FUNDED!! Give yourself the chance! #CERN #future #Physics #WomenInSTEM
I remember when this kid spoke out. It was hard to not listen to what he was saying because he was explaining it like an adult. Very interesting! Tonight at 7pm central on my YouTube channel the premier of my new show DEEPER DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE will air. Join us in the chat! Brian Cox explains the strange idea behind the Higgs Boson: After the early universe expanded and cooled, space filled with an invisible field. Everything moves through it. Some particles interact strongly with it → they gain mass Others (like light) don’t → they stay massless Think of it like moving through syrup: The more you interact with it, the harder it is to move → the more “mass” you have This idea was predicted in the 1960s
And decades later, confirmed at CERN using the largest machine ever built. We recreated conditions just after the Big Bang
 And proved the theory right. #higgsboson #physics #cern #space #universe #science #particlephysics #bigbang #cosmos #briancox
Curious what people’s thoughts are about all this. Will update when I have more info. #doritos #mandelaeffect #manifestation #cern #shiftingrealities
