Have you seen this purple fungi before? I went out with @ahous_adventures and came across this big patch of Purple Spindles growing on an island near Tofino, BC. It was such an unexpected and exciting encounter! You never know what beautiful little gems you’ll find on every adventure 🤩 Purple Fairy Club grows clusters of slender spindly lavender finger-looking fruiting bodies which rise up above mossy forest floors and can reach 10cm tall. Keep your eyes out for this fungi growing in western North American species, where it appears in mixed spruce and fir forests. #biodiversity #mycology #fungi #fungus #fantasticearth #tofino #explorebc #forestwalk #environmentaleducation #pacificnorthwest

Big clubmosses in a local roadside seepage! I've been visiting this spot for years, but only recently figured out how to ID the FOUR species that live here! What a special spot! Species (in order of appearance): Lycopodiella appressa Palhinhaea cernua Lycopodiella prostrata Pseudolycopodiella caroliniana Some terms (not all used in vid): Microphyll - leaf of lycophytes Sporophyll - leaf on strobilus Strobilus (pl: -ili) - structure that contains multiple sporangia, often terminally-produced on lycophyte stems Sporangium (pl: -ia) - structure holding the spores directly Peduncle - "fertile" stalk holding the strobilus in clubmosses Music: 130bpm by k0d4m4 #fern #fernally #nonfloweringplant #clubmoss #lycopodiella #lycophyte #spores #nature #naturephotography #beauty

Evening moth lovers. Willow and I have had a good chat and we’ve decided that it’s about time we made our moth mission a little more public. Last year, running BS3 Moth Club was wonderful. Initially it was just me and my trap at home or taking it to local gardens. But it wasn’t long before Willow was asking to join me. How amazing I thought, that a nine year old wants to wake up early and head out before school to ID moths with people she’s never met. This year we’ve had a few invitations to host some bigger moth sessions. A scout group, a youth group, a nature reserve…. And we cannot wait! We’re learning all the time, but we certainly aren’t ID pros and will have our trusty books, apps and @ray.barnett.583 on speed dial for some time yet 😁 But we hope this actually makes it all feel a little more relatable. ANYONE can care for, learn about, record and support wildlife. Here’s a little vid we made to celebrate our project and let you all know this mum and daughter duo are available should you wish to join us on our mission. 💫✨🌝💚🌿 #bs3mothproject #bristolwildlife #moths #mothsmatter #savebutterflies #mission #wildlife #bs3 #nature #naturelovers #actionfornature

One of my favorite winter steelhead battles of all time. We walked down into this hole and Kobi caught a beautiful little wild hen first cast, then I caught her big green boyfriend on the next cast! Might be the hardest I’ve ever set the hook on a fish. . . . . . . #pacificnorthwest #oregon #oregoncoast #riverpig #wildsteelhead #washingtonstate #wintersteelhead #steelheadfishing #fishing #bobberdown #stlhd #oncorynchusmykiss #onelifefishitwell #reels #comedy #rainorshinefc #highclasstackleco #gotsalt #noclassfishing #fishon
