Being a public servant is a reward in itself, but being recognized with a Police Community Relations Award is a unique honor that only happens once a year. Last year, Captain Joan Gallant got to experience that honor firsthand. Do you know an officer or @cmpdhq team worthy of recognition like Captain Gallant? You have one week left to nominate them! Fill out the form at cltgov.me/pcranoms by Mar. 31! Link in bio. #PoliceCommunityRelations #PCRAs #CMPD

Two teenagers are facing charges in connection with a shooting spree that killed one person and injured at least two others early Tuesday across Charlotte. "These were brazen crimes," Chief Johnny Jennings said. "These were crimes that put our community at risk and created a safety hazard for our community. CMPD personnel took this personally. They took this as a threat to the safety of the citizens of Charlotte and they acted appropriately." Arrington said CMPD officers spotted a suspicious car Thursday morning. One of the suspects, a 16-year-old, was inside the car. Officers found a stolen gun in the car during the traffic stop, Arrington announced. The teen, who hasn't been identified, is charged with first-degree murder. Additional charges are expected against that suspect. The second suspect, 18-year-old Carlos Roberto Diaz, was taken into custody later that day and charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, five counts of attempted murder, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. He is set to appear in court Friday morning. Click the link in our bio for the latest updates. #news #crime #charlotte #cltnews #shooting #cmpd

City of Charlotte officials this week did not provide documents related to the new police chief’s salary and any payments she’s receiving as she starts her new job. But it remains unclear whether that’s because no documents exist or because the city administration has records but believes they aren’t required to make them public under state law. City Manager Marcus Jones, who hired Chief Estella Patterson with help from a search firm and a city hiring committee, did not respond to a request for an interview with The Charlotte Observer on Tuesday. Patterson started the job Monday. 🔗 Full story at the link in bio. ✍️: Jeff A. Chamer 📹: Zach Dennis #cmpd #cmpdchief #charlotte

On Sunday, April 28, I joined thousands of people from across our city and beyond — firefighters, police officers, military personnel, and everyday neighbors — for the @t2tclt (Tunnel to Towers Climb) at Bank of America Stadium. The climb included nearly 1,500 stairs in honor of the four fallen officers who lost their lives in East Charlotte one year ago today. The grief is still real. The healing is still happening, but in the middle of it all — there was light. There was strength in every step. There was hope in the crowd. There was love in the remembering. Charlotte is still mending. So are the families. So is our city. But we will never forget. #TunnelToTowers #CharlotteStrong #votemolina
