We’ve officially made a decision on the awning situation for the T5, and the winner is... the side sail! 🏆 We tried the full inflatable setup with the extra storage room, and while it was great in theory, it just wasn’t us. It felt a bit like building a house every time we parked up, and we hated losing that gorgeous view of the outdoors. 🌳👀 We’ve realized we’re “side canopy ” people, and here is why: ✅ The 1-Minute Rule: It literally took us sixty seconds to slide it off the rail and pack it away today. Total game changer when you want to head off for a quick day trip! ⏱️ ✅ Quick Setup: No pumping, no poles, no sweating. Just slide, peg, and pour the wine. 🍷 ✅ All the Views: We get all the shade and rain protection without feeling like we’re sat in a plastic tent. We can actually see whats going on ! 🏃‍♂️👧 ✅ Less Bulk: It takes up next to no room in the van, leaving more space for the essentials (and the dog). 🐾 Sometimes less really is more. I loved my Sprinter, but bigger didn’t necessarily mean better for me. Here are the 5 biggest reasons I made the switch to a T5 👇 1. Parking & everyday use 🚐 The T5 fits in normal parking spaces, is much easier for shorter trips and, probably the biggest one for me, I can finally get under those 2m beach barriers. More places to explore without worrying whether the van will fit. 2. It actually feels MORE spacious inside Sounds backwards, but hear me out 😅 My Sprinter wasn’t a high top, so I couldn’t stand up, and the two fixed beds at the back really limited the living/seating space. With the T5’s pop top, U-shaped seating/bed and swivel seats, the space is much more usable. It also just feels cosier and more like a little home. 3. Fuel ⛽ A 3.0L Sprinter was never going to be cheap to run 😂. The 1.9 T5 uses considerably less fuel, which makes a big difference when heading off on longer trips or just using it more regularly. 4. Those tiny roads 🏔️ The Lake District made me appreciate this one very quickly… especially Hardknott Pass 😅. Narrow lanes, tight turns and small villages are just so much easier and less stressful in the T5. 5. Campsite setups ⛺ Using campsites means the van itself doesn’t need to provide all the living space. Once the awning, pop-up tent and everything else is set up, there’s loads of room — but I still get the convenience of travelling in a much smaller van.
