I was confidently wrong about Catholics. 😳 I said they prayed to Mary, confessed to priests instead of God, and practically worshiped the Pope. Then I actually studied Scripture + 2,000 years of Christianity… and realized I wasn’t rejecting Catholic teaching. I was rejecting what I’d been told Catholics believed. 👀 #catholic #catholichurch #christian #catholicism #earlychurch

Have you ever wondered why Catholics say, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed” before receiving Holy Communion? These words come directly from the Gospel of Matthew, when a Roman centurion approached Jesus and asked Him to heal his servant. The centurion told Jesus that he was not worthy to have Him enter his home, but that he trusted Jesus could heal his servant simply by speaking a word. Jesus praised him for his great faith. (Matthew 8:5-13) At Mass, Catholics use these same words before receiving the Eucharist. “Under my roof” refers to our own selves. We are asking Jesus to enter into us. When we say, “I am not worthy,” we acknowledge that we do not earn or deserve Christ through our own merits. We approach Him with humility. But, we don’t stop there. “Only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” These words express our complete trust in Jesus. We recognize our unworthiness, but we also recognize His infinite mercy and His power to heal and transform us. And because Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Eucharist, these words take on an even deeper meaning. Before receiving Jesus, we humble ourselves, acknowledge our need for Him, and place our trust in His mercy. #catholic #catholicism #catholicchurch #holyeucharist #jesuslovesyou
We know exactly what Protestants can learn from us 🙃 but, ask a cradle Catholic what we can learn from Protestants and the room goes silent. Peter Kreeft said we inherited the fireplace but protestants can sometimes keep reminding us to light the fire. I’m a devout Catholic married to a Protestant for 13 years with 5 children, here’s what he taught me, and what I taught him. ❤️ Tell me yours in the comments. #Catholic #Catholicism #CatholicChurch #Christian #Christianity Cited in this reel * Revelation 3:16 * Unitatis Redintegratio 4 (Second Vatican Council, Decree on Ecumenism, 1964) * CCC 133 * 2 Timothy 1:6 * Peter Kreeft, Catholics and Protestants: What Can We Learn from Each Other?
