He is kind. Loving. Attentive. Like the way he walks into the room… sees you… and you can feel that shift in him instantly. His face softens. He comes over, kisses you without hesitation. Asks you how your day was, and actually listens. Nothing is missing in that moment. And for a second… you’re there with him. But then - almost just as quickly - something inside you drops. It’s subtle. But you feel it. Your stomach tightens. Your chest feels slightly off. And your mind starts to lean in… → “Did I feel that fully?” → “Did I respond the way someone in love would?” → “Why didn’t that feel as strong as I thought it should?” And just like that, you’re no longer in the moment with him. You’re watching yourself in it. Trying to figure out what you feel. You look at him…and the thought slips in quietly: He’s so good. He treats me so well. Why am I still not sure? And then it goes one level deeper. Because now it’s not just the uncertainty. Now it’s what the uncertainty seems to say about you: You shouldn’t be feeling this way. Not with someone like him. Not when everything is this good. And there’s a moment, you don’t say out loud, but it’s there: “What is wrong with me?” And you’re sitting next to him… smiling, responding, being “in it”… while part of you is quietly scanning, questioning, pulling back. And you feel it. That split. So you don’t say anything. You stay in the moment. You let him hold your hand. You keep the conversation going. But underneath it… there’s this quiet guilt sitting in your chest. Like you’re holding something he doesn’t know. Like you’re not fully being honest, even though you don’t even know what the truth is yet. And somehow… That feels worse than the doubt itself. Because the doubt is one thing. But this? This feeling that you might be the problem… that you can’t just love him the way he deserves… that’s the part you don’t know how to sit with. And it’s the part you don’t tell anyone about. And the hardest part is… you’ve started to believe that this feeling must be saying something about you.
