Montessori 3-6 Classroom DIY Activities. Love this easy and inexpensive extension of learning. A child can recreate the circles of the World Map with playdough, then lay out the laminated continent pieces. #iteachk #montessori #handsonlearning #childledlearning #montessoriactivities
I hope you had a wonderful long weekend!💕 #reggioinspired #earlychildhoodeducation #reggioemiliaapproach #childledlearning
we have a lot to say about the importance of individualized treatment 🙂‍↕️ #aba #abatherapy #individualizedtreatment #playbasedlearning #childledlearning
Circle time is a mirror. 🪞 It reflects our values back to us more clearly than almost anything else in the day, because we choose what goes into it every single time. And those daily, habitual, this-is-just-what-we-do choices are never random. They are driven. Picture Prudence at the carpet. The calendar, the letter of the week, the sequence that has to hold. Underneath it runs one belief. A child who cannot sit still is not listening. So the moving body becomes evidence that something has gone wrong, and a gathering meant for joy slowly becomes a place of correction. Now picture Mary at the same carpet. She is reading the room. She can end early, go longer, or change direction entirely, because she knows why she is there. When a child’s body tells a different story, she hears it as information, not a threat. And here is the honest one. Sometimes circle time is not really for the children at all. It is the part of the day where we get to feel like a real teacher, where there is a shape to our practice that feels familiar and safe. There is no shame in that. It is deeply human. But when we see it, we get to choose. Learning to see what is really happening is a skill. And this summer I am teaching it inside Play. Wonder. Learn. 12 real play sessions from the Hummingbird Cottage, with me naming the learning as it unfolds. Three days. Completely free. July 17, 18, and 19. Comment PLAY26 and I will send you the link. Save this and watch your own circle time this week. Not to fix anything. Just to witness who you are being. - - - - - - #earlychildhoodeducation #playbasedlearning #earlychildhoodeducator #learningthroughplay #childledlearning
Just a girl who loves creating fun sensory goodies for little hands and big imaginations. 🤍 Stop by our website and explore our collection! Psst… we’re celebrating my birthday all week, and there’s a big discount waiting for you. 🎉 And one little favor… if you can, please consider shopping small all year long. So many small businesses are simply trying to make it through this difficult season, and every single order truly means the world to families like ours. With love, Eni 🤍 #smallshop #supportsmallbusiness #parenting #homeschooling #learning ❤️ Sensory filler from @curiouswren Tuff tray from @learning_through_playtrays
Beach Scene Sensory Tray 🌊 This beach scene was created using blue gloop for the sea, Weetabix for the sand and porridge oats to represent the crashing waves. Sensory trays like this provide endless opportunities for open-ended play, allowing children to investigate materials, develop fine motor skills and use their imaginations to bring the scene to life. Sometimes the simplest resources create the most engaging play experiences🌊🐚✨
From curiosity to creation. 🐚🎶 One of our former students brought us seashells, which quickly sparked the children’s curiosity and fascination. Inspired by their interest in the sound and movement of the shells, we explored how we could create our own castanets, using recycled materials and natural elements. Through this child led process, the children transformed an interest into a meaningful musical and creative experience reflecting the spirit of the Reggio Emilia approach. ✨. #ReggioEmilia #ReggioEmiliaApproach #ChildLedLearning #LearningThroughPlay #creativelearning
Send help! My little people aren’t floating!! 🫠 Loved this idea posted by @Hisamantarose, so of course I had to try it too! 🙈 Where am I going wrong?! No, I’m not giving up… my kids had SO much fun trying it, but clearly the reel vs. real struggle is real! 🤪 So if you know the secret… PLEASE share! 👇 Real vs. Reel #playbasedlearning #littlepeople #teacherlife #childledlearning #earlyyearsmatter
🍎 Apple Washing in the Garden 🍎 A simple invitation to play can create so many learning opportunities! 🌿 Today we took our apples outside for a little apple washing. The children explored the water, scrubbing and rinsing the apples, watching them bob and float, and chatting about what they noticed. There was lots of sensory exploration, mark making, pouring, scooping and developing fine-motor skills — all through child-led play. And of course… once they were clean, the apples were ready for a little taste! 🍎 🌱 EYFS learning: ✨ Physical development – hand strength and coordination ✨ Understanding the World – exploring water, floating and sinking ✨ Communication & Language – talking about what we see and do ✨ Maths – comparing, counting and filling/emptying ✨ PSED – independence and making choices ✨ Sensory learning through real-life experiences Sometimes the simplest activities provide the richest learning. ❤️ #EYFS #Childminder #OutdoorLearning #NaturePedagogy #ChildLedLearning
Why is my child clinging to me all day?! Why won’t he play on his own? Why does he play with something for one second and then come crawling to me? Look, there are so many factors involved (teething, hunger, rest, open ended toys, minimal distractions etc) but one thing is for sure: young babies won’t play independently without having time to connect with a caregiver. Don’t let this overwhelm, let it help empower you to be intentional with time you can give. A caregiver is with the child ANYWAY during a diaper or bottle, make that time count when you can. Magda Gerber said that in the RIE Educaring® approach: babies are “refueled” by such unhurried, pleasurable caring experiences, that then infants are ready to explore their environment with only minimal intervention by adults. This is why I tell parents, even if you’re not home all day, but you are present during that one diaper or that one bottle, don’t pass it off and put your phone away, even 10 minutes means more than a “half present” 24 hours. Think about it as if a child has a tank that needs to be fueled in order to hit the play pavement. Without that, they don’t want to play on their own, they’ll spend all day with an empty play tank. Fill the tank when you can and watch what happens. (and if you’re able to watch your baby play, that’s a bonus, they feel that presence/security too) #playtank
We love this post from @thewellfam and totally agree with this Jordan Peterson quote: "If your gonna make your kids tough, which they better be if they're gonna survive in the world, you can't interfere when they're doing dangerous things caretully." ⠀ Unsupervised and unstructured play helps kids learn the skills they need to enable them to cope with challenging situations, make decisions and assess risks themselves. Let kids be wild! 🦁 ⠀ #VivobarefootKids #VivoKids #WildKids #WildChildhood #WildAndBraveLittles #WildAndFreeKids #RiskyPlay #OutdoorChildhood #KidsAtPlay #OutdoorKids #KidsInNature #RaiseThemWild #ParentingQuotes #ParentingLife #FreePlay #ChildhoodDevelopment #ChildhoodUnplugged #ChildLedLearning #LetThemBeKids #LittleAdventurer
🐄 Ever wondered what fresh milk, straight from the udder, tastes like? On our vacation to Terceira, Azores, I decided to teach my son about the importance of the farm-to-table concept. Task at hand? Visiting a small - eight cow dairy farm. 🚜 We filled our cups directly from the cow - an experience both thrilling and educational. The result? My son tasted the freshest milk ever, and appreciates the hard work that goes into every drop. It’s not just about food, it’s a lifestyle lesson. #FarmToTable #LifeLessons #travelwithtoddler #educationaltravel #mamamoments #ilovetotravel #childledlearning #teachablemoments #futurefoodie
