Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn | Love in the Afternoon (1957). Ariane’s father tells her about a woman who returns from Spain wearing an anklet, making her husband wildly jealous. “There is something very provocative about an anklet,” he tells her. Ariane later uses the same idea at her picnic with Flannagan, telling him that her anklet was a gift from a Spanish bullfighter. Flannagan becomes visibly jealous. #audreyhepburn #audreyhepburnedit #oldhollywood #classicfilms #classicmovies
Here are three different versions of Jo March cutting her hair in big screen adaptations of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. There have been six movie adaptations and a slew of TV mini-series of the book. The first movie was in 1917, silent, and no copies remain. Another silent film version was shot around Alcott’s home in Concord, Massachuttes and released in 1918. Then, in 1933, Katharine Hepburn stepped in as Jo and had a nice cast of others with her: Joan Bennett, Jean Parker, Frances Dee, Paul Lukas, and many others. Then we had the 1949 version with Elizabeth Taylor as Amy, June Allyson as Jo, Margaret O’Brien as Beth, and Janet Leigh as Meg. Another big screen version wasn’t made until 45 years later in 1994 when the cast was Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Trini Alvarado, Susan Sarandon, Christian Bale, Claire Danes, and Samantha Mathis. Twenty-five years later we were given another big screen version with Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Emma Watson, Elizabeth Scanlen, Laura Dern, and Timothee Chalamet. I didn’t have a clip from the 1933 movie, but this winter I play to watch all of the adaptations I can get my hands on and compare them. I think that would be a fun way to pass the winter season. As an aside, my favorite TV adaptation was the 2017 PBS Masterpiece/BBC (edited to add BBC!) version which I think was absolutely perfect. Each actress played her role just perfectly, but I especially loved Maya Hawke as Jo and Angela Lansbury as Aunt March. #littlewomen #louisamayalcott #oldmovies #classicfilms #bookadaptations
One of the most unforgettable scenes in The Nun’s Story (1959). Director Fred Zinnemann saved the haircut scene for the very last day of filming. To make sure it was done properly and authentically, he had Audrey Hepburn’s personal hairdresser, Grazia De Rossi, dressed in a nun’s habit to perform the haircut on camera. Following the dramatic chop, De Rossi styled the remaining hair into the fashionable short hairstyle seen on screen. Audrey later joked to reporters: “I lost a four-year growth of hair in four minutes.” — Audrey Hepburn #audreyhepburn #audreyhepburnedit #oldhollywood #classicfilms #classicmovies

Before Sunrise (1995) Before Sunrise is a romantic drama that follows two strangers who meet on a train and decide to spend a single night exploring Vienna together, forming a connection that feels both spontaneous and unforgettable. The film is celebrated for its natural conversations, emotional depth, and realistic portrayal of two people slowly getting to know each other. In this scene, neither person says much, yet everything seems to be communicated through glances and smiles. What makes the moment memorable is the unspoken chemistry between them, as both appear drawn to each other while trying not to make it too obvious. It’s a simple but beautiful reminder that sometimes the strongest connections begin long before anyone says how they feel. #BeforeSunrise #Romance #MovieClips #Love #ClassicFilms

Bette Davis and James Cagney starred together in the pre-Hayes code comedy film Jimmy the Gent in 1934. It was their first of only two movies together with the other one being The Bride Came C.O.D., seven years later. The movie featured Allen Jenkins. It was well-received at the time by audiences and critics. In his review in The New York Times, Mordaunt Hall described the film as “a brisk, slangy piece of work in which Mr. Cagney is as much of a pepper-pot as ever ... [he] tackles the barbed argot of his lines with speed and force ... Bette Davis is attractive and capable as Joan.” James played Jimmy Corrigan who runs an agency that looks for heirs of those who have died without leaving a will and provides fake beneficiaries to steal money. His former girlfriend, Joan Martin (Bette), starts working for an allegedly legitimate firm which prompts Jimmy to start investigating that firm. He finds out the supposedly legit firm is even more crooked than him. Have you seen this one? What did you think of it? #classicmovies #vintage #classicfilms #jamescagney

🐉 The NeverEnding Story (1984) Director: Wolfgang Petersen Main characters: • Bastian Balthazar Bux (Barret Oliver) • Atreyu (Noah Hathaway) • The Childlike Empress (Tami Stronach) • Falkor the Luckdragon ✨ Why it’s unforgettable: • One of the most expensive films ever made outside Hollywood at the time. • Falkor was a 43-foot practical creature, requiring a team of puppeteers to bring him to life. • Based on the novel by Michael Ende, though the author famously disliked the adaptation. • The haunting theme song became one of the defining sounds of the 1980s. • The Swamps of Sadness remains one of the most emotional scenes in fantasy cinema. “Never give up… and good luck will find you.” #TheNeverEndingStory #80sMovies #FantasyCinema #MovieMagic #ClassicFilms
