It depends on how YOU show up. ❌ A nonprofit with no traction? Low impact. ✅ A part-time job where you take on real responsibility over time? Extremely compelling. ❌ A club you founded but never built? Forgettable. ✅ A local organization where you actually contributed and grew? That stands out. HOW MANY AP CLASSES DO I TAKE? For students aiming for competitive colleges, 8-12 throughout high school is common. The real goal is to show you took advantage of the most challenging curriculum available to you. Also, it’s better to excel in a manageable number of APs than struggle in too many. The best gauge is to look at how well you handled past rigor. We’ve noticed that most students struggle mental health-wise with more than 4 APs at once. That said, students should take all five core academic subjects—math, science, English, world language, and history—for all four years of high school.
