ATLANTA — WE NEED OUR PEOPLE! 🌱🍅💪🏾
We’re calling on everybody in our network who’s in Atlanta and willing to put some hands behind building something positive for the community.
We have an abandoned space that we want to CLEAR, CLEAN UP, and TRANSFORM into a place where we can GROW REAL FOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY. 🥬🌶️🍅🥒
This is bigger than just cleaning up a piece of land.
We’re talking about taking a forgotten space and turning it into something that can FEED PEOPLE, TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO GROW, bring neighbors together, and show what can happen when a community decides to build for itself.
We need VOLUNTEERS!
🧤 People willing to help clean and clear the space
🪓 People with landscaping or gardening experience
🛠️ Anybody with tools, lawn equipment, wheelbarrows, rakes, shovels, etc.
🌱 Gardeners and growers
🚚 People who can help haul debris
📸 Content creators who want to document the transformation
❤️ And anybody who simply wants to help
You don’t have to be an expert. If you have two hands and want to help us create something meaningful, WE WANT YOU THERE.
📍 Atlanta, GA
If you can help, comment **“I’M IN 🌱”** below or DM me.
And even if you can’t physically come out, SHARE THIS POST. Somebody in your network may have exactly what we need.
Let’s turn an abandoned space into a place that FEEDS PEOPLE.
Atlanta, let’s build. 🌱🏙️

Nancy joined @hestonactiongroup around four years ago. It started with litter picking, a group of neighbours who wanted to “tidy the place up a bit”. But as often happens, the act of showing up revealed a bigger possibility.
She began joining the Sunday morning volunteer sessions at Heston #CommunityGarden learning as she went. The garden is a large space, and volunteer energy is always finite. The rhythm Nancy describes will be familiar to anyone who’s helped run a community project, you arrive with a small job in mind, then a bigger priority appears and everyone pivots.
Look at our eggplants!!!!
I’m winging it as to when to pick them. Sought the help of my mother. “When they feel right” is what she said 😮🙄 Strangely I kinda know what she means. 🤭😂#communitygarden #gardening #vegetables #pesticidefree 💜💜💜
Community gardens are more than just green spaces...they’re community hubs 🌱🫂 Our network of gardens across the five boroughs host potlucks, workshops, live music, workout classes, and more throughout the year—all for FREE and open to the public 💚 In 2025 alone, we organized and supported 325+ public events throughout our parks and gardens in 2025, welcoming more than 10,900 New Yorkers to join us outside. 🎉 Help us continue this essential work in 2026 by giving a gift at nyrp.org/match 💌 Our founder @bettemidler will be matching ALL GIFTS up to $150K through the end of the year! 🌟
Five years of weekends.
Thousands of plants.
Countless bags of potting mix.
A ridiculous amount of pruning.
Hundreds of watering sessions shared with our awesome neighbours.
And more dead plants than we’d like to admit.
But we wouldn’t change it.
Because somewhere along the way, a neglected laneway became a place people actually love.
And we’re still not finished.
Share this reel with anyone thinking of adding some greenery to their neighborhood. 🌿🌾🌳🪴🐝

Back in June, I started reporting on @greenhouseventurestl ‘s mission to transform unused land into a living classroom. 🌱
Today, they’ve broken ground on a $4.7M ag education center in St. Louis’ historic Shaw Neighborhood. What started as an overlooked strip of grass has grown into a 3.7-acre greenway where kids learn about urban farming, sustainability, and pollinator recovery. 🐝🌿
Exciting to see this vision take root and keep expanding!

🥬 All of this fresh food was grown in a garden that was once…
a parking lot. 🚙
The abundance of food grown here is donated to folks experiencing food insecurity, while those who tend the garden provide horticultural education for underserved communities.
This non-profit, @givinggardengnv, spends SO much time nurturing the land — as well as the people and animals who rely on it 🐝 — that we thought it was time for someone to nurture the gardeners a bit, too. 🌱 Their greenhouse has grown countless plants from seed and has welcomed hundreds of volunteers, but it needed a little love. @gardeners stepped up by gifting these beautiful work tables, along with essentials like watering cans, plant snips and nutrients, harvest tubs, a fantastic garden cart, and some beautiful hods.
Pleas join us in thanking @gardeners for helping us lend a hand to those who spend their days caring for our one shared home.

🇹🇼🪴This old, abandoned stadium in Taiwan has been transformed into a stunning community garden! The ‘Zhongshan Football Stadium’ was abandoned in 2008 and rather than being left to rot, it was turned into an urban garden for locals to enjoy and grow their own food as part of Taiwan’s larger garden city programme! Would you like to see abandoned places in your city transformed like this? Share with someone that would love this!
Fun story - I saw this on Reddit and reached out to the poster, who connected with me here and was kind enough to film these videos in Taiwan, thank you @pietfunn 🫱🏼🫲🏾

🌱 Bethania Street Community Garden
The Bethania Street Community Garden is thriving thanks to the incredible volunteers who give their time to nurture it. From planting and tending the beds, being home to community composting, they share knowledge with others and their efforts are helping this wonderful space grow for the whole community.
If you’d like to learn more or get involved, why not pop along to one of their community workshops? It’s a great way to meet new people, learn some gardening tips and be part of something special right here in our Lota community. 🌿
I’d love to see another community garden in our ward. Where would you like to see one? Let me know in the comments below. 👇

Ever heard of guerilla gardening? 🌱
Guerilla Gardening is essentially when everyday people start planting in neglected or underused spaces to make their neighborhood greener, more beautiful, and more alive. Think native plants, pollinator gardens, food, and community🐝🪴
One example is @thetemplatecommunitygarden here in Ocean Beach, which actually just won an award 🏆
If you want to get involved, start small. Plant something. Water something. Care for your little corner of the world 🌎💚
