Breaking down how to composite 2D layers into 2.5D parallax animation with natural camera movement. Using animated png suits for character animation and FX, and static layers for the background art, I composited the whole scene into After Effects. One simple trick to create a convincing parallax effect with 2D animation layers is to turn it into a 2.5D scene by using a 3D camera. This was composited in After Effects, but you can probably apply the same process in Blender or Nuke. The top view is my viewport, breaking down the 3D camera and the different layers in z-space to create the magic. The bottom view is the final rendered shot.
