I think we underestimate the power of receiving something that wasn't expected. Not because it's your birthday. Not because it's Christmas. Not because someone needed something from you. Just: “I thought of you.” Maybe it's because I make art, but I've always loved the idea that something small and beautiful can travel from one person to another and carry a little feeling with it. So here's your Friday assignment: Send one person something today. A text counts. A photo counts. Starting the year with the best kind of energy. ✨ My friend and fellow art teacher Susan McCreevy flew in from Inverness, Scotland, and we did exactly what you hope to do when an art friend visits. We wandered around Cascais, talked about everything, laughed a lot, and soaked it all in. The real magic happened back in the studio. We had a full-on artist play date, and Susan shared a few of her favorite gelli plate printing techniques. No plan. Just playing, experimenting, and making a happy mess. Even Callum, my sweet Scottish kitty, had to jump in and supervise. This is why I love connecting with other artists. The sharing. The curiosity. The feeling of being completely at home while creating together. So grateful for art sisters like this. it turns out making friends as an adult isn’t that hard when you bedazzle books at your local bookstore ✨ running these book bedazzling events at @mermaidbooksct will never stop feeling a little bit magical to me because somehow the exact right group of people always ends up in the room, every single time. last night people showed up to bedazzle a book and left with plans, group chats, inside jokes, tbr recommendations, and new connections. we may have accidentally started a future mahjong group (tbd but i have high hopes) and a few people who just moved to the area left with what i hope are now local friends. moments like this remind me why community building matters so much. we need spaces where books bring people together, creativity softens things, and there’s no pressure to be perfect. sometimes all it takes is being willing to sit down and create together, even if you come alone! i’ve met so many kind, creative, book loving people through these nights and i always leave feeling lighter, more connected, and more human. sitting around a table, making something with your hands, and talking about books - it’s easy to forget how rare that kind of connection can be. so this is your sign to bedazzle books at your local bookstore 🫶 you might leave with a sparkly book and a group chat of new friends to yap about it with. does it get any better than that? 🤍 we hope to see you at our next event if you’re local to milford, ct! we will be announcing april dates soon so keep your eyes peeled because these events have been selling out FAST #bookbedazzling #communitybuilding #supportlocal #adultfriendships #creativeconnection

The night before @afrilovefest , we gathered around the table with family and friends to test our new “Baobab Craft Kits”. What we expected was a simple craft activity. What happened was something else entirely. As the patterns began to appear on the pods, so did the conversations. Stories from childhood. Memories of grandparents. Jokes. Laughter. Ideas. Inspiration. People sharing, creating, and connecting. The baobab pod became an excuse to slow down. To put phones aside. To create with our hands. To be present with one another.
