Linked Half Double Crochet
Have you ever noticed that taller crochet stitches (like hdc, dc, and tc) tend to create holes or gaps between the stitches?
If you’ve ever wondered how to eliminate those gaps, then linked stitches may be your answer!
To create a linked hdc
- do not start with a yo!
- insert your hook into the horizontal strand of the previous hdc and pull up a loop
- insert your hook into the next st (like you normally would) and pull up a loop
- yo and pull through all three loops
Result: no gaps!
Have you ever seen linked hdc in a pattern?

If your double crochet rows are getting wider, narrower, or just looking a little off, this is probably why! 🧶
In this quick crochet tutorial, I’m breaking down exactly where the first and last stitch go in a row of double crochet, plus the real difference between chaining 2 vs chaining 3 to start your row.
✨Does the turning chain count as a stitch?
✨When do you skip the first stitch?
✨Where does the last DC actually go?
This is one of the biggest game changers for clean, straight edges.
Save this for your next project 🧶 Comment and let me know if you prefer to start with a chain 2 or chain 3 👇

Foundation Double Crochet is amazing… until you have to count it and go to the next row! 😅 In this reel I’ll show you exactly how to count your foundation double crochet (FDC) stitches so your width stays correct from the very beginning. I’m also walking you through how to move on to Row 2 after starting with FDC, because that’s where a lot of crocheters get stuck!
Save this for your next crochet project and share it with a crochet friend who needs it! 🧶✨

Does your turning chain 3 always look… weird?
You’re not imagining it.
The traditional chain 3:
• Creates gaps
• Looks thinner than a real dc
• Can make edges uneven
A chainless double crochet fixes all of that.
Same height.
Same thickness.
Way cleaner edge.
There are different ways of working a chainless dc, but this is the one I go to most often. Try it on your next project and tell me if you notice the difference 👇
